dennis boatman Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 A few of these I'm not sure what they are... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Those have some age on them. The top one looks to be a Babe Oreno, I can't recall the second one, but I've seen it. The red and yellow lure in the picture is a Crazy Crawler. The 4th looks like a jointed River Runt, but I don't know if the made them in wood or without hangers. I don't think it's a Heddon. 5 and 6, no idea. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
dennis boatman Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 ...the 4th one is a mystery...very river runt looking but also has a homemade look to it...the metal bill just doesn't look fabricated... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Quillback Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Very nice, that second one might be a "Woodchopper". But I may be way off also. Is that Jitterbug wood or plastic?
dennis boatman Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Jitterbug is plastic...the last one is also very interesting...no markings at all...and the wire on the metal lip? What's that for? A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Wayne SW/MO Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Very nice, that second one might be a "Woodchopper". But I may be way off also. Is that Jitterbug wood or plastic? I suspect that it's the Heddon Dowagiac Minnow. I have a couple of Woodchoppers, newer models, and they seem "fatter and with a different bend on the prop. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 The Jitterbug came complete with DOPE? Frikken Sweet! Must have been from the late 60's cuz you can't get away with that now!
dennis boatman Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 I've sniffed it and licked it...not gonna smoke it...nothing yet... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
Al Agnew Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The first one is probably the Midge-oreno...I'd have to know how big it is to be sure. The Midge body was about 2 inches long, the Babe-oreno body was about 3 inches. The second appears to be a variant of the Heddon Dowagiac...I believe it says "Dowagiac" on one side of the prop in front, but I can't read the other side. I'd be curious what the word on the other side is. The fourth one is either home-made or home-modified. There were a number of similar lures made, either knock-offs of River Runts or earlier versions. The fifth looks to be a Creek Chub Company paint job and eyes, so I'm guessing it's a Creek Chub something or other. No idea on the last one, but I'm guessing that wire soldered to the bill was designed to make it kick up off rocks and wood better than the bill itself would do, making a bit more snagless.
