Wrench, I appreciate your two cents. Since I don't know much, as a DIYer, I really thank you, and others like you, that do know and are willing to share. Thanks.

I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar

Thanks, it's no problem I enjoy doing it. Discussing the various issues folks have with their outboards helps keep me sharp.

TVT, I can fix it during the next warm spell if you can't find someone closer.

One tip I can give you is: Don't mention to the DEALERSHIP that you take it to that you are considering buying a new motor....that kinda makes repairing your '04 motor alot more difficult for them IYKWIM. :)

Have you checked with Ulrich Marine in Branson West? They are one of the best shops around if not the best. Fred has been in the marine repair business for several years and will do about anything for a person. I highly recommend them in my personal opinion for any outboard repair. They have always done me right........

Yes Fred at Ulrichs will tell you the answer in about two minutes - also down the road on Hwy 13 about 2 miles is Angus at Cope marine - they are a Yamaha dealer and jsut as good.

I like using Hydro-Tec they always been good to me. Since they really specalize in Yamaha work

Sorry Wrench But I do love my 250 SHO 4 Stroke

Just my 2 cents

Hey no apology necessary! I'm not pimping myself. Matter of fact there's no heat on in my shop so I would rather not have to go out there :)

I don't know Wayne at Hydro-tec personally but from what I've heard he is an ace 4-stroke tech....if there could be such a thing. I am NOT, and I have no problem at all broadcasting that.

In this situation however, a gearcase is a gearcase :)

Tom has anybody torn into that lower unit before?, ie: changing the impeller or anything like that?, or has it been that way from day one or did it develop over time? From what I gather it's never been into other just gear lube changing. I know we have talked about this before, but I guess I have slept through some of the details. The man from LOZ sounds like he really knows his business on this as there are a lot of shims and tolerances in all those lower unit shafts and gears.

How's the knee doing?

Well....THIS is what I'm hung up on.....

i have a unique problem no one seems able to fix. the last two winters my 2004 yamaha 4 stroke will not go into reverse in temperatures less than 32 degrees-it just chatters. i have been to two different yamaha dealers. the first changed lower unit grease. did not help. the other place took it apart and.......
