moodyfour Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 It has become real quiet on the board! Either everyone is busy killing or busy spending time with family and friends for the Christmas season. I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Getting ready to head to NE Arkansas for a few days to hunt the overflow! I think I am more excited about that than my small kids are for Christmas Morning! Again Merry Christmas!!!
BilletHead Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Thanks Moodyfour and Merry Christmas to you and all on here also from The BilletHeads. Believe it or not we still have some birds around even with the ice covering the fields. Ponds froze back up except for the roosts. Our good roost got snuck into and shot up. I went in the other day for a sneak peek and to take a few pictures to share with you all. No birds. Found feathers, blood along the bank and empty shot shells on the back side of the pond dam. Get this the empties were old paper shells. A red Western super X and a green Remington Express Kleanbore. Yes they were fresh still smelling like burnt gun powder. I bet they were 50's or 60's models. I was bummed but people are going to do what they do. Ice is starting to melt some today. I have been watching birds both ducks and geese landing in the ice covered fields. There is still plenty to eat under the ice. If it melts off they will stay but if it doesn't I am sure they will move on. Hope more will take there place. I know we could have a good hunt this afternoon. Hiding would be the problem though. Not white enough for a snow cover and don't have icicle camo! We will leave them alone and if the melt off comes this afternoon and tomorrow there may be a hunt in our future, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" JohnP Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Merry Christmas to you everyone else as well. Finally got out this morning on Bull Shoals. Hunted til noon and maybe saw 50 ducks, 90% mallards and the rest gaddies and mergs and half dozen geese. Lake is up about a foot from last week from when I scouted it and although the spot on a flat with brush to hide the boat blind looked promising the birds wanted nothing to do with it and acted like stale birds that knew where they wanted to be. Had few try to work us and could of taken some passing shots they just wouldn't commit. Ponds still open for the most part and still holding ducks.
duckydoty Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Been spending time with family. Got out and hunted Sat. and Sun. Was kinda slow. Worked in the Baxter area yesterday and saw lots of fresh ducks flying. Merry Christmas to all of you! A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Feathers and Fins Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 First time I have checked in for a while, been on the family farm killing in wholesale fashion. I wish there was a way to post FB videos I tried to get some but as the few on FB could see I kept having to drop the camera for the gun. I will have plenty of snow and speck meat for a long time. The specks this year are suicidal. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
mhowerton Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Merry Christmas. Hunted Norfork on Monday and only saw a few gadwalls. Headed to visit family in Russellville and hunt in the river valley a couple days and then over to the Black River.
moodyfour Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Will be on the Black starting tomorrow! Can't wait! Merry Christmas!
Terrierman Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 There are tens of thousands of geese in Vernon County right now. If not hundreds of thousands. Suffice to say a LOT of geese.
BilletHead Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 There is ? :) Say it again? Not a bad problem to have but you have to get through mallards to get to the geese. A nice roost where 99% on here are mallards, half mile from the house. Three photos of the roost, Here is where they are going. A half mile from home, Have been saving the place for a friends visit.
