Mizzou finished a very solid #5 in both polls, behind FSU, Auburn, MSU, and USC. I think that's about right. The only questionable team ahead of us was USC. They did beat us, but we finished with the better record and we beat a better team in bowl season. But I don't have a huge problem with it.

FSU finished off the SEC's streak. I had mixed emotions. I wanted the conference to keep the streak going, but I had a really big grudge against Auburn for that late hit against Josey in the SEC title game. So I guess I was reluctantly cheering for the 'Noles last night, though I didn't think much of either team. The SEC still had the best bowl record this season among conferences, and I'd argue it is still the #1 conference slightly ahead of the Pac-12. But it is no longer dominant.

At the end of the day, I don't see how it reestablishes any level of its former dominance next season. Every elite team looks set to take a step back, except Auburn. There is very real danger of the Pac-12 taking over as the country's top conference in the years to come if Oregon/USC/Stanford can keeping playing at a high level.

Yeah I think #5 is a fair rating for Mizzou, but I can also see the argument for them being ahead of USC. I'm not too disappointed if the SEC dominance ends, even though I root for the SEC in general, but I think it's just a better competitive environment if there are several strong conferences.

It will be interesting to see if Malzahn can continue to work the magic at Auburn. And to think he was once the OC at Arkansas. If him and Houston Nutt could have just gotten along...

just think if these were the final rankings after next years regular season standings voted on by the committee for the 4 team playoff.

I will be interested to see how the league adjusts to Malzahn's offense as we head into next year, but Auburn is probably the favorite to win the SEC again. I think coaches will look at the Missouri game film for pointers. lol.

Number 5 is fair spot for Mizzou, but it is hard to not look at the Auburn game and think our defensive scheme really hurt us. From what I saw last night, we would have played with FSU.

SEC will be a true dog fight next year, with no real dominant team except maybe Auburn. Lot's of excitement to come especially in the East.

I wasn't surprised at USC's ranking, don't agree with it, but they did beat MU, barely. It all went as I expected, but i wasn't sure where OU and AL would end up. The truth is AL is probably better then many in front of it. The only thing Auburn can really claim is that they sated with them. Surprisingly OU is the only team in a few years to really beat them, even if it was close. I think AL rather than Auburn will be the team again next year.

Well just to be hard to get along with and pop some bubbles, I have to point out that the SEC only played 1 game where they ranked behind their foe, and they lost. With the exception of LSU, schools from the states of Alabama and Florida have won all the NC games, kind of like the big 3 and the 10 little indians.

They're saying Josey declared for the draft today. A couple of my friends told about it and I don't want to believe it.

I still don't think it was Mizzou's defensive scheme, so much as the defensive line and linebackers just getting beat by Auburn. If you noticed, even with a month to prepare for the Auburn offense, FSU had a difficult time stopping them, and you'll also have noticed that Auburn exploited FSU for a lot of yards through the air. I just don't think Mizzou's defense was as physical as the Auburn offensive line. Had they really sold out to stop the run, I have little doubt that Auburn would have gotten a lot of yards passing.

Having said that, Mizzou's offense looked considerably better against Auburn than FSU's offense did. If it hadn't been for the kickoff return for a TD, Auburn would have won that game; their offense outplayed FSU's. Strange as it may sound, I think Mizzou would have had a better chance of beating FSU than they did Auburn, and I think they could have had a better shot at beating Alabama than Auburn as well. Not only that, but I think they could beat Michigan State.

I think they would have beaten USC handily if Franklin and especially Gaines had been healthy and playing...I think they would beat USC if the game was played last week. In my opinion, they might have been the second best team in the SEC, and possibly the third best team in the country.

Hated to see Josey leave for the pros, even though I don't blame him for grabbing the brass ring. But I think they'll be okay at running back next year. They'll miss Josey's toughness, no doubt, but they've still got two established backs, and a couple replacements in the wings.

He did the right thing though, I believe. Counting the year and a half he missed due to the injury, it sometimes feels like he's been part of the Mizzou program since about 1980. And running backs have a pretty short shelf life.

So I don't blame him for going and (hopefully) getting a big paycheck. And we have plenty of talent in the backfield with Murphy and Hansbrough. Both are expected to return and could have been solid starters this year if Josey hadn't been on the roster. I see Hansbrough as the starter and Murphy as the change of pace guy, but they could end up being pretty interchangeable.

Mizzou almost never hurts for a good running back or two, though Josey was truly special.
