ozark trout fisher Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 They looked good against 'bama today. Alabama isn't great, but the quality of play was much, much better. I was there and despite the miserable season, there was a good crowd and a pretty good atmosphere. That was nice to see. The tourney is a realistic goal. I'm in no way resigning myself to the NIT, though it's a legimate possibility. But I think they do have to win the rest of the home games (especially against Kentucky) and win one more road game. That would get them to 10-8 and 22-9, which is probably enough for an 11-12 seed in the NCAA tournament. Anything less, and they need to win a couple games in the SEC tournament to have a good chance. While we are all pretty disappointed, they are still 14-3, and 2-2 in SEC play. It's far from a lost season. Despite worse play, they are basically in the exact same spot they were last year. I could see this team rallying to get into the NCAAs, but they need to feed off this big win. And they absolutely must, must take down Kentucky at home, or somehow find a way to beat Florida on the road. And no more loss to RPI 100+ teams. Beating a good LSU team on the road in a few days would be a great confidence booster for the rest of the way.
Quillback Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Congrats to MO, and I agree that they have a shot at the NCAA, but as mentioned, they are going to need some quality wins. Arkansas choked another one yesterday at GA. I don't understand why they can't win on the road, I can see it in a packed field house with rabid fans, but attendance in GA was only 6,500 and for the most part it was a pretty quiet crowd. Arkansas is punching their ticket for the NIT unless they can turn things around.
ozark trout fisher Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 The SEC is a weird, weird basketball conference. I think both Arkansas and Missouri are pretty good teams. Same with LSU, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. I think they'd all make the tournament in the Big Ten or ACC. But there are so many awful teams, that those good (but not great) teams can hardly avoid a couple of losses to bad teams. Because if you are playing 10-12 really bad teams in conference play, the odds are pretty good you are going to lose a couple just out of complacency. And that can send a quality team to the NIT really quick. In the Big Ten or Big 12 there are maybe 7 or 8 conference games where you have the chance to get a really high quality victory. In the SEC you get maybe 2-4. You better win those when they come along, or else you'll be in big trouble on selection Sunday. That's a lot of pressure without many chances to help yourself.
Quillback Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Yep I agree, that loss to FL hurt the Hogs more than the loss to GA. When it comes to selection time, it seems the talk on the bubble teams that are close to each other, always turns to "quality" wins. AR hurt itself by playing a relatively (except for the Maui tournament) easy pre-SEC schedule. You have to have some quality wins on the resume. Or win the SEC tourney.
Quillback Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Watched some of that LSU game last night, good game as far as it being competitive, I was hoping Mizzou could pull it out, but it didn't happen. I don't know if it's me, but it seems these days college BB teams are so undisciplined.

ruthead Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Looks like we've turned into a MEball team. GimME the ball and watch ME go! I don't like it and apparently it doesn't seem to be working for the win column either. "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Quillback Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Makes you wonder if these guys even listen to their coaches anymore, and I'm not just talking about Mizzou, just seems like the disciplinarian type coach, a Bob Knight for example, is vanishing from the college game.
snap Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 ....its like all the mizzou road games look exactly the same, no matter the opponent.......this year and last year!!! HARD to watch!!!
