when i go to meramec i usually see some relatively big- several inch long sculpins swimming around in the slow moving places. never seen one caught though. neat.

Cute animals taste better.

Guides and locals fish with small hooks and bait in the rocks to catch sculpen on the White river and then float them as live bait for the large browns there. Not my cup of tea but I tried it once there fishing out of Gastons and down through white hole. The technique we used was floating down a couple of times and locating where the fish were holding and then floating the rest of the day through the hot spots. Worked like a charm until we run out of bait.

That's hilarious. I've caught sculpins off other flies at RR but never on an egg. Too bad they don't grow like trout = great sportfishing.

The first time I caught one, dad called it a dog fish. Has anyone else heard them called that or was my dad just full of it?
