Members Jozark Posted January 12, 2014 Members Posted January 12, 2014 Has anyone used or had any success with a hair jig and pork in the wintertime on Table Rock?
GNSfishing Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Well I'll date myself but back in the day we used Bucktail, Marabou, vinyl, rubber, and now silicone skirts on jigs, spinner baits and other lures and they all caught numerous fish. There's no telling how many fish caught on the bucktail jig and the uncle josh # 11 and/or # 1 frog chunks all year around. I used to buy the pork baits case at a time. Nowadays the pork baits are hard to find and costly. So to answer your question yes that combination will work in the winter time on TR. The pork remains more flexible in cold water over some plastics..
dtrs5kprs Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Used to buy a hair jig over at Bull Shoals Boat Dock (still sold them last time I was there in 2012) and fished it with the old U2 twin tail pork- smaller than a split tail eel. Worked at Bull, Table Rock, works in northern MO and IA. Ned Kehde did a show with Stacey King for the Bass Pros in December 2010 at a small KC metro lake and Stacey whacked them with a little hair jig.
Hazbin Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 First full moon in March, Brown and Orange 1/4 oz., deadly, especially up in the large feeder creeks at night. Zoom trailer
Hazbin Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 First full moon in March, Brown and Orange 1/4 oz., deadly, especially up in the large feeder creeks at night. Zoom trailer There are times during this time the Bass are right on the bank and it is extremely important to have a nearly silent entry and this is easier to do with a hair jig. Also if you can still find Spring Lizard Pup in pork really turns them on.
Members Jozark Posted January 14, 2014 Author Members Posted January 14, 2014 Thank you for the information. I was going to order some Punisher hair jigs, but are there any suggestions on brand that anyone prefers?
RSBreth Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I use my own hair jigs ( both bucktail and craft hair) year - round. I mostly use plastic trailers, but I have used pork in the past. My favorite trailers now are the powerbait or gulp leeches, and the new ZMan Leechz. I used to buy the punsher jigs and also tie my own on a couple of different jig heads but I make my own now. Smallmouths and Spots really like a small hair jig with a leech trailer - Smallmouths in the creeks love them, too.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 What's a pork (jig)? Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. inshore Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 found some nice hair jigs at overton's made by northlands. going to try them as weights on drop shot rigs. I'm thinking it should work will let you know if it does.

I like that idea of using a Gulp leech as a trailer, they look like they should work on a drop shot also.
