Haven't been to Fork in several years. Last time Donna and I went, we set off a record ice storm. Fished in shorts the first day. Woke up that night with sleet pelting our tin-roofed cabin. Spent the next 2.5 days huddled up before it finally melted off enough to get the boat in the water. Fishing was slow but we did managed to catch an 8-5.

"Set off a record ice storm" - man, that's funny!

That's one of the things that keeps me from making the trip, not so much ice storms, but I hear that the wind can really blow at Fork and blow for days.

The day before the ice storm it blew so hard out of the south that the local news reported that night that several bass boats were sunk. Donna and I were in my 18-foot Hydra-Sports at the time and I was not one bit comfortable until we got that dude on the trailer. We had to make a little 2-mile run back to the ramp and were fortunate that we had a pocket to duck out of the wind until it started swinging around to the west (and eventually the north) which let the swells settle down enough for us to make it back.

That was pretty close to the happiest I've ever been to get on the trailer.

I only fished up in Birch Creek. Had a tip to throw a lipless crankbait and rip it through the hydrilla in 4-6 fow. Sure enough. It worked. Never fished that way before, but I sure enjoyed it. I would sure like to go down there in March or April. I watched a show with James Niggemeyer and he was smoking them on topwater. Believe it was June. There were some close to double digit bass on a spook type bait. That would be fun!

I saw that show, I agree catching those hogs on a top water would be a hoot.

Danger. I ran into you guys at the mexican steak house that was behind the courthouse. I appreciate the help you gave us. We went to that spot where you told us to go and there was 10-15 boats within 500yds of that spot. Lol. I guess the word was out. After 2 days of no fish we decided to go to Lake Fork. That was our 3rd time to Falcon and it was by far the worst trip we had ever had. That was my first time on Fork. We fished for about 4 hours and I caught two good ones. A 5lb 15oz and a 4lb 7oz. I would much rather drive 5hrs to Fork than 14 to Falcon. Thanks again for your help.

It was great meeting you guys. I'm sorry the spot we caught em didn't work for you. Those sure are some nice looking Bass and you look happy! Did your son have a good time?

And if Niggemeyer can catch em ... OK, OK, I'll be nice. : :XD:

One of the guides we talked to at Lake Fork said they would go to Falcon 40 times a year. They don't go any more because it has not been what it used to be. Only so much pressure those fish can take I guess.

We have gone 3 times in lat 2 years and it has been slow each time. I'm still searching for a winter honey-hole since Huites was ruined.
