Members Tuffy Posted January 21, 2014 Members Posted January 21, 2014 Ham - I did all the same things with the exception of the SR5. I threw a grey grub on ends of bluffs at transitions dragging on the bottom. Got my two bass that way. Great posts all. Thanks for the info.
Ham Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I live pretty close to the rivers. A river trip is much easier for me. Less time and less money AND a whole lot more bites. A full day on the river when conditions are right = > 100 trout. I prefer to bass fish, but I'd rather catch fish than NOT catch fish. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Ham Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 I love to grub fish. I should have spend a few hours doing that. I have tremedous confidence in a grub, but decided to give a full effort of a few other presentations. I'm glad you got a couple. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Fish24/7 Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Nice fish. I fished the Pontiac & Theodosia area Sat, Sun and Mon morning. I had two 3.5 lb bass off a gray grub on the bottom in 30' of water. I threw jerk baits on the points off main lake and secondary in coves and never had a bite. Never thought they would be up in the creeks. Gotta learn to fish the Bull. thanks for posting, we need more people participating , thanks again !!
Members Tuffy Posted January 21, 2014 Members Posted January 21, 2014 I don't usually post because I do a lot more fishing than catching. However, I do like the site and learn a lot from reading what you guys post. Thanks and let's keep it going.

mixermarkb Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Put me down with Ham. My friend and I put in Monday at Buck Creek, fished in and between Trimble and Shoal, threw A-rigs, Jerkbaits, jigs, smoke grub, wart, etc. We didn't catch a fish, not even sure we had any bites. I saw a ton of bait between 20-60 fow, a few arches I'm calling fish, and quite a few dead and struggling shad. After talking with friends (in this thread lol) I'm pretty sure we were fishing too fast. I hadn't been on the lake in almost a month, and was fishing new water. I think I was trying to hard to find fish, and really should have just camped out in a couple places and slowed Waaaaayyyy down- Oh well, live and learn-
Ham Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 If I had seen bait < 50 FOW, I would have dropped spoons on it until I knocked one in the head. I couldn't even find bait. I like the Buck creek area. It's not real handy for me to get to from where I live and I really wish there was a better boat ramp on the south side of the lake there, but I've never done as well in Trimble as I would expect to do. I tend to like the creeks and drains on the north dise of the lake on that area better. One thing I have learned, there can be too much bait, Sometimes the shad kill is so pronounced that you can't buy a bite. I have to leave that area usually for water with more color before I can get bit. Hanging around real clear water with a massive shad kill is a good way to zero.
