dtrs5kprs Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 How is your Ranger T'gnat? Sort of lost track of your progress. Those white and bone warts are useless .
troutgnat Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Abkeenan, You are correct. I believe I saw the same comment from others about that blank crank. There were some comments in regards to that on Tackle Underground. I have not tried them yet either but was planning on buying some to try out for myself. If they run good, I'll repaint them myself. troutgnat Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Dtrs, Thanks for asking. Still a work in progress but going well. She's fully repaired, re gel-coated, new carpet and pad:), all new custom dashes, fully redone trailer, now it's all the add-ons/accessories, etc. I ran out of money.....LOL. I should of bought a new boat....LOL But I'm proud of what I've accomplished. However, took too much time off the water! Here's what in progress for now and this year.....finish custom aluminum drop-in deck extension, finish installation of Bluewater LED's(mostly done), now putting in their blacklight system, painting of the engine, installation of custom graphics. troutgnat Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Alex, I love those colors. That first one really appeals to me! Are you painting these??? What do you call that first one? Here's my latest repaint I did for the Rock. I call it 'Ghost Cinnamon Raisin". I haven't tried it yet but I think it's going to clean house. dtrs5kprs Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Looks like you have it figured out. Sorry to hear the boat work slowed down. It was some amazing work. Those unpainted "warts"...have around 2000 of them from two different manufacturers, and have painted a few hundred of that number. Some run, some don't. At the price I paid (not $2) I just paint about 6-12 of a given color. If one does not run right, I swap it for another one and try to tune it later at the dock. Even then some of them will tune, some will not. Think it has something to do with the line ties. Occasionally you will find one that is loose in the groove, and just will not tune b/c you can't adjust the tie. Could also be the fact they are finest kind Chinese knock-offs, or at least mine are. All in all they are a decent bait when they run. Good action, good sound. Just don't buy 10 of them and expect to get 10 working baits out of the deal.
troutgnat Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Well, at that price who can complain? I have so many originals that right now I don't see the justice in buying very many of them until I run out of my good stash. Now, if I were selling repaints that would be different but very rarely do I charge for my repaints, most are for myself and good buddies. And, I'm no where as good as the "fathers" of repaints. Those guys can make them swim/crawl right off the table! Hey Dtrs, your a hell of a good painter too.....Would you be so kind to post us some "eye candy"??? dtrs5kprs Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Little reluctant to put these up, but this thread does seem to be turning into a semi-official Wiggle Wart thread. Basically, don't be afraid to paint and throw something other than craw colors. Fish still eat other fish, sometimes even when they are full of craws. Opportunity is definitely their favorite chef. All of the painted baits are "generics". Would you have known if not told? Keep that in mind when shopping re-paints. There is an old Wart, a Kopper's, and a Brad's in the pic for reference.
Sore Thumbs Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Great colors. I have seen those on ebay. My only reservation would be the fact of whether is the real pre Rapala or not. You wouldn't know until you got it and listened to the rattle. By then its too late. You have already bought it.

I like the craw patterns myself but my grandfather who fished Table Rock since the 70's and lived there since the 80's threw just one color and one color only and has PLENTY of fish and BIG fish to show for it. It was not a craw pattern either. Looks similar to one of your custom paints in the pic....I'll let you figure it out. It's a family favorite.
