Quillback Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Any recommendations on a good flyfishing for bass book? I'm looking for the basics - rod, line selection kind of stuff and techniques.
fishinwrench Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 IMO the best and most current info is online, Right Here on OAF I understand the joy of a real book though. Terry and Roxanne Wilson have a book or two out there that cover the basics. And anything Bob Clouser is gonna be worthwhile reading. This vid will get your bass blood boiling...
Quillback Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Great video, there sure are some folks out there who can make great fishing videos. I need to figure out what weight and length rod to get, I'm thinking mainly throwing streamers and shad imitating stuff, but it would also be nice to have a rod that is versatile enough to throw some surface baits like those poppers.
fishinwrench Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 For green bass I throw pretty big stuff around really thick cover and I like a 9wt. so I can lean on them. But the gold standard is an 8wt.
Quillback Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Doing more browsing here and on other sites. Folks speak highly of the TFO Clouser rods, they seem to be reasonably priced but yet very well liked by what I've read. Then there's the line question - sinking line for Clousers and other minnow imitators? But if I'm going to throw floating flies I'd probably want floating line. I can see where a guy might need to carry a couple of reels with different line types, floating and sinking.
fishinwrench Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Naw, to hell with that. Rio makes 7 and 12' sinking leaders that cast great and do an excellent job. Play with a few of those before going to a seperate sinking line for bass. Buy a few 12'ers and modify to suit your needs.
Greasy B Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 IMO the best and most current info is online, Right Here on OAF This vid will get your bass blood boiling... fishinwrench Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Here's one that'll do Jerkbait duty if you can't wait until Spring... I call it the Grumpy ol'troll Fish it on one of the Rio 5.6ips sinking leaders anywhere you'd ordinarily throw a suspending jerkbait, it will get'em.

I've got some sinking leaders I'm dying to try. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
