West Fork Jason Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 All you need to do is- Buy a snowmobile, sled, pop up shack, ice auger, portable heater, vexlar, short little rods, tiny jigs, maggots, tiny minnows.... http://www.WestForkJason.com
Haris122 Posted February 17, 2014 Author Posted February 17, 2014 I caught 2 Largemouth at Lake 37 at Bush yesterday. Hacked up 8 holes in the ice and 2 of them produced. With another one giving me light Bluegill like bites that I couldn't capitalise on. So my ice fishing persistence finally paid off. Now winters hold the potential not to be quite such a drag as far as fishing is concerned. Now that I figured out what might work for Largemouth every once in a while, I want to see what works for Bluegill, Redear, etc. But judging by the temperature this week, I might have to hold off until next winter. And truth be told I'm perfectly fine with that.
West Fork Jason Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Haris- glad to hear you had success! What did you catch your largemouth on? Today, I caught bluegill, yellow perch, pike, and bass all on the same northland tackle forage minnow jig tipped with waxies. The bass was a challenge with the 2lb. test, thought I lost 'er a few times when it seemed stuck to the bottom of the ice. Luckily hooked the pike in the lip... Kept a few for eats, let the bass go. http://www.WestForkJason.com
Haris122 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Jason, I got the first one on a plain roostertail, and the 2nd one on one of Kasmaster-like spoons with a worm on it (normally don't like to resort to that, but I figured with ice fishing I needed the aid of live bait which the roostertail disproved). Neither was that big, but I'm happy with them.
Haris122 Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Btw, that's a nice assortment of fish there. I can't exactly tell the size of that pike or how much of a fight they give, but it looks about the same length as that Bass. Did it give as good of an account of itself as the Bass?
West Fork Jason Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Today was early season trout catch and release opener, the first time in a several years I've missed it. -20/-30 wind chills. Hid inside a pop up shack with a heater instead....;( http://www.WestForkJason.com
