Brian Jones Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Well I wasn't able to watch the show last night, so I recorded and watched it this evening. Pretty much a waste. Seemed like a cross between The Dukes of Hazard, Road House, and the Shepard of the Hills. 60 minutes of my life I'll never get back. It is a shame that producers cannot come up with anything better than these corny reality shows depicting all who live outside suburbia as simple backwoods hicks. But I guess these kinds of shows are what's attracting viewers.
Quillback Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 It's running again tonight at 6 PM, so I'm going to record it. I expect it to be really bad, but I guess since it is set in Arkansas I feel compelled to check it out.
Quillback Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I was able to stand it for about 30 minutes. It was bad, really bad, putrid, rancid. Reality TV has hit a new low with this show. The only thing I found to be funny, was the subtitles, in case any of the viewers have problems understanding Ozark folks.

Justin Spencer Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Come on you guys, "Hillbilly Blood" is real. The reality of reality shows is they are cheap to make and enough people watch them to make them profitable. When that stops, something else will come along. But not until. exactly! I'm sure they will make things up and put on for the cameras, but a good hillbilly show would be pretty easy to make. I know some of you live in the rural Ozarks, but for you city slickers that may not be fully aware, stereotypes aren't always that far off. Plenty of Winter's Bone stuff goes on every day down here, there is a reason many people in the hills like to stay isolated, and those reasons would make for good tv, I doubt this will be what the program shows however. Old plug Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I seen it on rerun and it was everything I expected. The worst possible view they could create. Rural or Urban none of us have any reason to look down our noses at anyone else.

Nope, it's not at all a "Winter's Bone" type depiction. Folks that want to stay isolated, stay so for a reason - you won't see them on a show like this.
Old plug Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I was raised in St louis lower middle class working people and my contact with rural people came early. There is a lot of likeness between the two groups. My sole travels with both groups. These are my people. I detest them being made something they are not.
Mitch f Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 People will never be able get along with each other because the flesh is weak. I see some smart people do some extremely stupid things. I also see some uneducated people do some very smart things. It takes all types. You need the thinkers and the doers. You need the techies and the salesmen, you need the hawks and the doves, rural versus urban....You need all kinds of people for this society to work. Steven Ambrose wrote a book called Citizen Soldier about WW2. He surmised that the reason we won the war was because of our differences. The Germans were trained to be soldiers from 16 years old and only knew how to follow orders. Our army consisted of farmers, accountants, firemen, construction workers, businessmen...etc. our diversity allows us to think outside the box and fool Hitler in many ways.
