Daiwas in the 3000 size. At the lower end the Excelers in that size have been very good to me. They are my primary spinning reel, and have been since 2006. If you want to spend a bit more the Lexa is a bit nicer.

These are MH freshwater reels and do weigh a bit more than the "bass" sized 2500's. The big advantage is the larger spool = less line twist, even with fluorocarbon.

Another better than expected reel is the BPS Pro Qualifier in the 40 size. Have one of these that has seen serious use by myself, and my kids. Everything from 6# finesse to frogging with 30# braid in the summer. Like the fact it comes with a spare spool.

Pflueger guy here. Have the newest model Pflueger Supreme MGX and for $100 I don't think it can be beat in that price range. Interested to see how the new Lew's spinning models will be received and judged. Lew's has seriously stepped up their game on the bait casters the last couple of years since their reemergence in the market and I would expect the spinning gear to be great also.

I have most all the spinning reels recommended by others here, and I like a bunch of them - Daiwas and Pfleugers especially. But the reels I like best, by far, are Lew's - from here in Springfield, Mo. Every size and grade of Lew's spinning reels are of great quality and a pleasure to use, in my opinion, even the inexpensive ones.

Shimano CI4 on my shakyhead rod, Pfluegar Supreme MGX on my dropshot rod that's soon to be upgraded to either a Shimano Stradic or Pfluegar Patriarch, Pfluegar Supreme MGX on my skipping/senko rod, Shimano Sahara on my wacky rig rod, Shimano Symetre on my grub rod.

Guess the Shimano's are fine for glitter boat jockeys..They suck on the river...get them wet or the slightest bit gritty and you would be better off with anything else.

I love my Shimano Stradics, for I have never had an issue with them at all.
