Clay Goforth Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 J-Doc, that's what I have said year after year in the past and then I'll wait until the middle to the end of March and go out and somebody will say, "Oh, we've been catching walleye out here for a month. The runs pretty much over..." Not this year, sir. Noooo, sir. If they are there early, I'm going to be there waiting for them. They are too delicious to miss. I am still skeptical but I'll post an update tomorrow when I get back. You are probably right. Let me know what you see in your neck of the lake. J-Doc Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 You are correct. They do have a habbit of being where and when you least expect and YES.....they are tasty treats!! I'll report what i find....if I find anything. Feathers&Fins will be out. You know he will proivde his weekly blurb/report. lol Speaking of tasty treats. I know what I'm doing this weekend. Breaking out the Holland and griling some fresh striper during all of this crazy winter snow junk they are predicting. YUM! Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Members marknsaw Posted March 1, 2014 Members Posted March 1, 2014 I was out last week and it looked like the river eyes were moving. I was trying to follow them but it's hard too when the whites and stripes are sitting on the flat transitions and the wind was blowin' as hard as it was that day. The males are definitely moving in and the females are probably starting to stage up in the deeper waters around the mouths and the channels. I am praying to get out on Monday, but that is starting to look like a NO GO ( yeah! more winter). I'll definitely be looking forward to a weekend report, and try to fish vicariously. Earliest I can get out will be Friday and I'm half tempted to hit holiday island. Good Luck!! I hear ya J-Doc, I'm planning a nice boil/fry of Texas gulf coast blue crab and shrimp with mangrove snapper on Sunday. Been saving it since October.....yumEEEE.
hoglaw Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I'm going tomorrow. Looks like there will be a crew of us. I will be with my fiancee in a 21' aff with a 90 yamaha jet. Don't have a clue how to fish for them. Was planning on hitting southtown up for minnows on the way. Maybe drifting crawlers on the bottom too? No idea what I'm doing. Feel free to call 95783two8 while you're out there. Will probably put in at beavorama.

You're right, now is the time for walleye, if you wait for the reports, you're going to miss out. AGFC nets walleye that they use for hatchery brood stock around March 15 below Beaver dam. Those walleye provide the walleye fingerlings that are stocked in Beaver.

AGFC nets walleye that they use for hatchery brood stock around March 15 below Beaver dam. Those walleye provide the walleye fingerlings that are stocked in Beaver. They've been going to Romp Hole on the Kings River for the last few years. Way more predictable than the tailwater. I expect they'll soon start recruiting from Beaver though. I can't dance like I used to.
Feathers and Fins Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I fished the white below the dam for a little bit yesterday and only caught a few small whites and we had primo bait fresh caught. It doesn't look like the walleye have moved up yet. This storm could easily delay them again. Beaver lake I am thinking fish will be from PT12 to 12Bridge and I am going to give it a try. Stripers will be looking for cleaner water the walleye and crappie might be up shallow yesterdays weather had me concerned but I don't think it was enough to mess with the fish. Tomorrows weather is going to screw us fro a week. rps Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 OK. If we are going to be serious I will contribute what I know. Sorry I only have a second hand report. The owner of the floating ice house reports fair to good luck on minnow tipped jigs between HI and Houseman. He has been fishing the upper end of "holes" using a very slow drag of the bait.
Clay Goforth Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Alright. Fishing report is in. Put in at Beav-o-rama. Got mud all over me and my boat. Caught two white bass right off the bat, followed by a small largemouth. I'm thinking, "this is going to be pretty good..." Don't ever think that. I went two more hours with two bites, the sun went behind the clouds, and I got cold. Just got more mud on my boat and in my truck. I'd say with as cold a winter as we have had, the fish may be another few weeks away from a good run. Sidebar: a fellow fishing next to me, trolling live minnows, pulled up a real pretty 15-18lb striper. Looked like fun. hoglaw Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Should have listened to you this morning clay. We struck out. The water had a very nice color and clarity though. Just no fish. Didntsee anyone else catching either. We left and went to the private lake near Siloam. I expected to whack them there. Trophyfishr and I caught 25 each last weekend with the biggest five going probably 20lbs. Today was a different story they wouldn't bite the super spot but I managed a dozen on a flick shake worm. I'm ready for the whites to get up in the river. I like fly fishing for them a lot more than running all over the place in the boat.
