Walleye Questions

when do the walleye normally move up shallow? when is the spawn(as far as water temp is concerned)?

to you guys that fish this water on a regular basis, if you were fishing walleye out of mutton creek area 2 weeks from now, how would you approach it?

when do you fish jerkbaits and shallow stickbaits for Eyes?

is mutton to far south for good walleye fishing, so i need to be closer to the dam?

sorry for all the questions, thanks for any answers

if we get a couple good warm thunder storms between now and then i'd make the run all the way up sons creek to the 39 highway bridge and fish on the channel side of the island just off the old road bed. theres also a good hump off the downstream side of the end of the old road bed that will hold eye especially late or early in the day. if the water doesnt warm up depending on the weather i would probly run down the lake and fish the rip rap at the 215 bridge or hitting the old quarry, eagle island, orleans trail and then on down to the darn. I hope this helps but Bob Bennett would be the one I'd think would be able to answer your other questions. Also if you dont know the channel running up sons that run can be a little on the hairy side you have to be really careful through there and watch for the channel swings and stay in the main channel.

I'm no walleye expert but I believe they spawn between 42 and 45 degrees. The moon phase plays a role also.

you might have luck at 39-40 degrees. I know it is knit-picky, but some people apply biblical truth to numbers. i have always heard 40-45 degrees and then start trying 2 degrees early. :secret-laugh:

Riprap, also known as rip rap, rip-rap, shot rock, rock armour or rubble, is rock or other material used to armor shorelines, streambeds, bridge abutments, pilings and other shoreline structures against scour, water or ice erosion.

It is made from a variety of rock types, commonly granite or limestone, and occasionally concrete rubble from building and paving demolition. It can be used on any waterway or water containment where there is potential for water erosion. maybe when i referred to rip rap i used the wrong term but i lived in greenfield and was a manager at the grocery store for several and fished Stockton almost daily after work and think i know the lake pretty well if i wasnt fishing i know someone local who was. i just try to be helpful on here and share my years of experience and relay info from the locals who fish it daily. i apoligize if i used the wrong term i used it as a generalized term for the areas on and around the bridge embutments.

No need to get testy SRJ, just wondering if I missed something. So in other words there is no rip-rap on the 215 bridge........or does 215 cross the lake somewhere else other than by Old State Park..................just asking. :have-a-nice-day:

You know if my febble mind, and I do mean feeble, remembers correctly 215 use to keep going straight at Country Depot and then about 10 or 15? years ago they changed the signs so that 215 turned and went north at Country Depot and the section that continued straight west was named Y highway. Y highway goes over and crosses the lake at twin bridges. Like I say I may be totally wrong,
