Members camo Posted March 11, 2014 Members Posted March 11, 2014 Hi guys. I just moved to Branson about 2 months ago (Work purposes). I'm pretty excited about all the fishing possibilities in the area. I plan to fish Lake Taneycomo, Table Rock, and hopefully some streams for some wild trout once I find out more about the area. In the meantime I've been fishing the from the shore of Lake Taneycomo (looking for a fishing buddy with a boat!). I've caught a few small rainbows but nothing to write home about. I also caught this tiny little fish yesterday on a rooster tail. I've attached the photo, I am not sure what kind of fish it is, I'm struggling to even find it after research. I look forward to getting some good fish in the area an sharing some stories.
Ham Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Shiner. I call them Creek Shiners, but I think it is listed as just "shiner". They get about twice as the one that you have there and will bite all sorts of artificals including full size jerkbaits. Pretty smelly little fish. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Justin Spencer Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I believe it is a striped shiner, they get quite a bit larger than the common shiner, we catch lots of these in the NFoW, some have to be records! Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 11, 2014 Root Admin Posted March 11, 2014 I call them creek chubs, whether that's what it is or not They're all around my dock.
Ham Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 . They'll eat Zig Jigs too Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Justin Spencer Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 . They'll eat Zig Jigs too nice, I have tons of pictures of those things, each one seems bigger than the last. Just got my zig jigs in the mail today, excited to try them out, got a few blue and white to try on the white bass as well. Ham Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 With the soft plastic restrictions in place on NFOW, I switch to Zig Jigs once I reach Rainbow Springs. Trout and Smallies WILL eat them on NFOW. That beast Rainbow I caught on NFOW ate a Zig Jig at the head of a pool. I of course hope they work really well for you. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. jdmidwest Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Creek Chub. They love flies too. They leave a fishy stink on your fingers when you handle them. I always try to shake them off. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Tim Smith Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Justin's right. The common name recognized by the American Fisheries Society is "striped shiner". You can tell them apart from common shiners by the fact that the lines along the body cross over behind the dorsal fin.
Tim Smith Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 This.... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8LSc17E-f3s/UYMpW2Q1mbI/AAAAAAAAGLU/1CrI_NCMM1k/s1600/April+21st,+2012+-+Creek+Chub+-+Tacony+Creek.JPG ...is a creek chub. Mustache on the upper lip, dark spot on the front margin of the dorsal fin.
