dtrs5kprs Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Geez Dave don't make my competition at the outlet store worse than it is already. Barlow's does have the 3 inch generic senkos in bulk for less than 10 cents a pop. I feel like I can average about 5 fish per bait fish on a LC ball head, but that's still nothing near the longevity of the cut Zero. However , if you are willing to use up stuff you have already in your possession, you'll save a few dollars, but your results may suffer a tad. I've tried to buy the correct JIgheads and the preferred baits. I'm trying remove as many variables as possible and be able to concentrate on the technique. Ned is big on the economy offered by the elaztech, as are many of us who use the system. I could fish quite cheaply if I did not feel the needs for redundancy ( as in many, many bags of each color ).
Guest Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Exactly, Nothing compares to the action & durability of elaztech. I was an unbeliever last year too. But after catching 27 bass on a single little rig, that convinced me. You become attached to your little rig after 10 straight fish. The more it's bitten, the better it's action becomes. Another thing to point out, I don't spend extra time switching plastic worms or fixing plastic worms after every bite. You just keep firing it back at them. That aspect makes you more efficient & starts to demoralize your fishing partner. That's when they stop making fun of your little rig and start begging for them. Believe me, I made the wife beg after catching 10 straight fish in the same exact spot. She couldn't stand to get beat like that. Now, she wants a braid to floro setup on a falcon low rider like mine. Lol
Guest Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I just purged my tackle bag of everything besides Ned rigs. Tomorrow is a rain day & I don't want to dry out $200 worth of plastics. I've got a 1/16oz rig tied on one rod & 1/8oz tied on the other. I alternate between 2 colors, green pumpkin/red & watermelon orange. Keep it simple stupid. If I was fishing the FLW as a coangler, that's exactly how I would approach it too.
jerry241 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Trophy: How long floro leader do you use? And do you use a swivel or tie direct?
Guest Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I use a wing span which is about 5 1/2'. You don't want the knot going into the spinning reel itself. The knot will catch on the roller. Alberto knot, no swivels. I've found this to eliminate the need for a drop shot swivel too. Braid doesn't coil up like regular fishing line. Virtually no twist. Trying to tie a small swivel is much harder than tying the Alberto knot.
jerry241 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Thanks for the info... Hoping to get out and give this thing a try for real in the next couple weeks

Members rogerdodger Posted March 15, 2014 Author Members Posted March 15, 2014 It took me a while to understand the texture change that occurs as you fish the rig. As all of that salt pours out of the elastatec a honeycombed body is left that is softer than any "plastic". The rig quivers without any angler input. To maximize this I use as short of a shank hook as possible. The matzou sickles have a short shank in comparison to gap. I feel this is the reason the bait becomes more effective the longer it is fished. The smallies in rivers go nuts over it and has replaced the Gitzit tubes which for me were always the gold standard for streams.
