Members Engr5 Posted March 17, 2014 Members Posted March 17, 2014 Searched various on-line tackle and could not find. Does someone have a source for cable guard mushroom heads that they can share? Thank you.
abkeenan Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I use Arkie brand from Walmart that are a button/mushroom standup style head with a cable guard. Come in both 1/4oz and 1/8oz and I use the 1/8th for Ned Rigging. Around $2.50 for a pack of 5 heads.
Bitethis Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 do these keep the 1/2 senko on well? I used something similar this last Friday, and the elaztech worm kept sliding up the shank ever time I reeled it in.
Guest Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I started out with the arkies last year. They do work, but that hook will not hold up. Its a good entry level jighead. Ive since graduated to the gopher without a weedguard. Theres a way to drill holes and modify it, but idk how.

Like these? Just make your own! Much cheaper in the long run and you can control the hook and not have to worry about burning gas running to the tackle shop that may not have the size you want. This is a picture of the mold I used. I learned this trick from either Ham or Dutch, (can't remember). Just take a regular, non weed guard round head Do-it mold and take a standard Do-it mold wire weedguard and place it in the mold in the right position and clamp it in place with a C Clamp and smash the shape into the mold....works great! dtrs5kprs Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Home made is the way to go for now. Dremel tool will cut the guard slot in seconds.

The hook isn't the best of quality but I've done just fine on them.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 The elaztech will slide all over unless you glue it to the head. Barbed collars, wire keepers, etc., make it worse. It is engineered to not tear and will spit out barbs, screw locks, and the other keepers that work for plastic. A no collar head is the easiest answer, with glue to keep it in place.

I was really beginning to not like the Elaztech because it wouldn't stay on any of my jig heads, trying to get the Elaztech swim baits (for a-rig) on a jig was near impossible, and they can't be stored with other plastics. With that many strikes against them, I am wondering if it is even worth the effort/price....and now I need superglue to make them fishable??
