Old plug Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 The air temperate has only gotten up to 39 today and water temperature has gotten down to 39 also. We need warm sunny days where the temperature the sun is out and the high temperature do not fall fast towards nighfall and rise fast in the morning. Were going to need more than just sun. The water is not that clear and the sun does not penetrarte all that far.
WHARFRAT Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Fish have been bitin' So who cares right now! It'll keep some of the big boats away! @lozcrappie
Old plug Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 yeah I know the crappie got on a tear this afternoon in the gravois. I did not find out till after 4 pm and did not get on the water till after 5 and all I caught was one drum. I was to late I Think. I am not going to be doing much of this dishing when its below 45 and windy. It took about 1/2 hour to turn my hands to lumps.
fishinwrench Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Couldn't have asked for a better crappie bite today, it was on fire. Nice sized females just hanging along steeper chunky banks that were getting some sun.
Old plug Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 I started out tooooo late. That wind was kind of brutal on my ride up into Indian and back.
Old plug Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Warfrat------- your way up bthe niagua river. That means a lot in the spring. You should be catching Walleye and White bass up there in numbers soon.
Bushbeater Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Who were the dedicated anglers I watched fishing Ha Ha Tonka Sunday thru the sleet and snow. It takes fortitude to fish all day in those conditions.
WHARFRAT Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 I caught my fair share of walleye last year, the only alarming trend was, no small ones. I think the smallest we boated was 19" and the biggest just shy of 28". Most were caught trolling bandits and shad raps. Did catch a few on jigs while crappie fishing. But you would think you'd catch some smaller fish once in a while. I'm not complaining about the size. I broke my own personal record twice last year. Does anyone know when the last time they did a stocking? Normally white bass run pretty good down on that end of the pond. Last year,,,, lets just say it was hit or miss. I never keep any, but I sure like to catch them. Never got into a sustained jump. If I did see them busting shad, by the time I would get there and cast,,, it was over. Again, it seemed like the ones we did catch were pretty good size. My goal this year is to concentrate on walleye a little more. Maybe try some "North Woods" techniques on them. It seems like a lot of walleye are caught within sight of our home, I think people caught quite a few last year. I did hear that middle of last April there were good numbers caught in HaHa Tonka Cove. So, I might give that a try. @lozcrappie
stuartsx5 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Wharfrat, do you know of a place to put in down by 54 bridge? I used to put in at Roach and run down there but gas was a lot cheaper then. Don't mind payin a few dollars to use a ramp if one is available. Earl Stuart fishin is livin
WHARFRAT Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Larry Gale is the closest public ramp, it's approx 8 1/2 mm of the Big Niangua There was a pay ramp at DerVater Edge, just under the north end of the 54 bridge. Not 100% sure if its still there. I doubt you can use it with the water this low. @lozcrappie
