Goggle-Eyed Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I spoke to Ameren buddy again today, he said the 'bridge had nothing tho do with lake levels". "we" followed the guide curve He also mentioned that based on forecasted weather it might come up "quicker" than normal... There was an article in the local paper saying that they are following the normal guide curve, no mention of bridge demolition. Not sure why or who started the demolition rumor but from everyone I have talked to, there was no plans to change the normal curves. Yes they gave the demolition guys a spec on how far below they needed to clear the pillars, but it appears they never agreed to hold the levels at al certain level, other than the FERC guide curve. Old plug Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I have looked at the curve. Bt its not important to me. I look out my window and can see where it is.I was not told that by anyone down there. I was told buy a business man here in the Gravois. He was suppose have gotten a call.
fishinwrench Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Who gives a rats asp ? What matters to ME is that this date last year we had a foot more water, and the year before that we had almost 3 foot more water ON THIS DATE. And when I am sitting here anticipating a run of Fat & Sassy & Horney White bass.....10 inches of water can make or break the deal. There's a hump of built up sediment in the flats that needs a lake level of at least 657 for the fish to get past. Otherwise they (for the most part) are "lake-locked". So for Dog sake please stop debating and name dropping white collars at Ameren ....and use that energy to start RAIN DANCING!
WHARFRAT Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 start RAIN DANCING! I'm going to tell you like I tell my wife, "I can't dance, I hurt my foot!" @lozcrappie Â
Old plug Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 You should have a real fine time up there this weekend WARFRAT.
Goggle-Eyed Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Ya, you're right Wrench, Dead Horse about the Lake Level and how it is managed. You would think after debating that for the past 15 years I would just let it go. I just hate hearing people feed the conspiracy theorist on the level. I have heard people say "they do it to Screw up the spawn" (how could this make sense), I have heard they did it because some rich guy (used to be a Bush or a Politician names involved) needed to work on his private ramp/sea wall. When I was selling and working on Marina Layout's for the lake it was a very important matter for us, however now that I am in back in the boating and powersports stuff you would think I could let it go! Anyway, I will be out of town three days this week so will get that rain dance in right before I leave. I raindanced last night since I am going to the STL Supercross race today but I guess I didn't dance fast or long enough since it just kinda misty. I will try and do better this week!!!! Sorry, old plug for beating my dead horse at your expense. Rant's on lake level are over!
fishinwrench Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 The only "conspiracy theory" that I buy into is that they draw it down during Winter so the ground will freeze, thereby keeping the milfoil from taking hold. And of course to make room for Spring runoff without flooding areas below Bagnell. Personally I miss the weed beds of the 80's, and having water up in the bushes after a deluge. Good times!
Old plug Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Things seemed to change drastically after the merge. I think a lot of policies can be laid to the infusion of what was the old CIPS or Central Illinois Power Service. They were not at all supportive of fishing or anything else in the recreation field years ago. I used to fish Lake Coffeen In IL many years ago. At that time they were not supportive of people fishing the lake. They allowed it reluctantly, but they did things to discourage it like dumping tons of rock an the old roads that provided access. There were no ramps no camp grounds nothing. The Illinois conservation office ask them to set aside some property for a boat ramp. It turned into a big argument. As I recall they made a big issue about it being private property liability and everything else. I think both sides were wrong in their approach. But the thing that CIPS done was deputize about half the town of Coffeen and put boats on the lake. They arrested and prosecuted a bunch of people. They made a statement as I recall that they were in the bushiness to provide power and maximize their profit and not provide recreation to anyone. I agree but I do not trust them to not do things that will discourage things they do not support. When we had the recent round and round about the take line. It looked like the stuff I would expect for the old CIPS. I do not think they are done either.

This lake is very open to fishing and has great access. Consistently puts out good stringers of LM all winter long plus.
