Mitch f Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Both my daughters go to "Kumon", which is after school supplemental math and reading. Seems a high percentage of Chinese send their children there. I noticed most of the people who send their kids there are either Indian or Chinese. They figure the supplemental way is cheaper ($220 per month) than a private school. We started Kumon after we noticed our oldest was making straight A's and couldn't finish what we considered was a pretty basic math problem. I asked Zipstick, who was an elementary school teacher his whole life, about the high percentage of students in my daughter's grade that made straight A's. He said that when the teachers have a yearly evaluation, the principal tells them that if they are a good teacher, their kids will make straight A's. Seems like a conflict of interest to me. Old plug Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Mitch is this Kumon in the training in St Charles. I want to tell my son about it. I hope however my granddaughters go to Catholic School. Mt son graduated from Francis Howell when I lived up there in Saddle Brook.
Old plug Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Smalievigs------ Hope you have a nice time. but at the current level you better be careful where you fish that A rig around docks. There is just loads of brush down there. I an my neighbors have about 200 ft of crappie beds spanning 3 docks they are pretty close to the surface right now as well.
Old plug Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I agree with you Feathers----- do need skilled craftsman. we do not all have the high IQ to become a scientist. But most of us are smart. A self employed welder can become rich on a place like LOZ. Self employed people in the trades can do very very well. So there is places for everyone but they all have to have basic reading and math skills.

I do think it is great that you send your kids to this program, it is just to bad we have to rely on this sort of thing to properly teach our kids. hank franklin Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I heard Common Core is shorthand for Communist Corps and is basically a plot to take over America. Just sayin.
