ness Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 It's been a cold March around here, but with decent precipitation. Sposta clear 70 on Sunday -- time to start looking. Anybody seeing or hearing anything yet? John

blue79 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 i found a spot here in Stockton that had one morel but there was like a thousand little holes through the woods where the deer had got them.I should probably go out there and start peeing on all of the trees or spray something to keep the deer out.
jdmidwest Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Ground is still pretty cold around here. Leaf litter packed tight this year from the snow and sleet. They should stick out good when they pop up. Grass just started showing some green here this week. Last year it was hard to find them with the leaves all fluffed up and dry. I will give it a week or so. Peak usually is April 17 thru first part of May here. There may be a few grays next week. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Leonard Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 still pretty cool ... rain this week and some sun .. I think jd is right... you should start seeing them around the 15th..... http://www.taneycomonights.com
Gavin Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Still too cold...think it's going to be a late season this year
Bird Watcher Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 the first time it's 75 during the day and 55 at night for three days in a row, there will be blacks up at my early spot in McDonald County. Of course crappie will be on the bank and Turkey season will be open somewhere too. Not enough hours in the day during April.
ness Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Yeah, I looks at morelhunters.com and the map shows them south still. Not surprised --- it's been cold. John
jdmidwest Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Water temp at a local lake was at 55 degrees this weekend, somehow. It was cold and rainy all day Sat and 29 degrees Sunday morn. Somehow things are warming up. Looking at the forecast and how things are starting to show around here, I may go out this weekend and look for some greys. Even though it seems early, it looks like a warmup is coming. I tend to see mayapples blooming and trilliums around when the mushrooms are peaking around here. I have seen no mayapples yet. But I am getting the itch. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
