buzzbaitr Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Hi everyone, I am taking my dad down to fish next weekend and we were planning to put in at gravois mills. I have never put in there before, anything I should know?
Old plug Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Just watch out for a few trees sticking up the first couple of miles down. A few or way way off the bank. It is also extremely shallow across from the ramp. Water temperature was over 47 this afternoon. Hope you have a good time you might have a crush of fishermen up there though if the wether is decent.
buzzbaitr Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Thanks for the heads up on the trees. Are they visible? If not, do you suggest running on plane before the trees or is it trees mixed in all the way up to the channel?
Old plug Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 yes but not much they are remnants of a flash flood we had some years ago. It wash big oaks and things down into the gravois upper end How far do you intend on going down. The temperature down about 1 1/2 was 47 when I was up there this afternoon. By the time I got to my place at Mill Creek it was back to 44. Might be your best bet to hang up in that area.
buzzbaitr Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 I fished indian creek a couple years ago in a friends boat and had a pretty good day. I was thinking about trying it again
Skeeter ZX190 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Did you get much rain the last couple of days? I was considering putting in at Brown Bend but was concerned that it might have gotten muddy today.
Old plug Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Indian might be hp there in the upper 40s if you get back in there pretty far. The way the wknd was blowing today a lot of west side of the creek may hace been pretty protected. I do not htIn I am going to be going out the weekend unless it is Sunday morning for awhile. need to catch up on gardening around here. The. my daughter is coming down Sunday. afternoon.
nomolites Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Thanks for the heads up on the trees. Are they visible? If not, do you suggest running on plane before the trees or is it trees mixed in all the way up to the channel? Shouldn't be a problem but the south side(right) coming out has most of the invisible timber although the point past the first cut on the left has a bit as well. Stay to the middle for the first half mile to mile and you will be in the creek channel-you definitely will be clear after that. Going to be a ton of boats on the lake for the BBB; be careful out there and stay wide of the black Crestliner
buzzbaitr Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Thanks for all the advice. Thats why I love this forum, there are a lot of good guys and fisherman on here.
fishinwrench Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Stay to the middle for the first half mile to mile and you will be in the creek channel Not trying to split hairs here, but the creek channel runs right along the south bluff bank from the access all the way to Stokers point. At 655 though you are safe to run out of the flat if you run parallel and about 40 yards out from the South bank for the first 1/2 mile. If you run the middle between the ramp and the mouth of little Gravi at less than 657.0 there are 2 big pieces of wood that can get ya. They get shook about 4 times a week.
