Bigmo Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I should have got out before 7 but waited till 8. What a mistake. Second cast I finally found big mama on a wart in 3 fow. She went 5/9. I caught 14 more males until the rain, lightning, and thunder started a little after 10. Some of the males got bigger. Lots of wrapped boats fishing down here. Everything was on the red/orange wart from 3 to 15 foot out from the bank. Sorry the big fish pic was dark, I blame it on my wife. haha
merc1997 Bo Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 i had really been keeping the kings river bite mum because i had had it all to myself. we have just been really whacking them on crankbaits. actually our best crank has been a model a bomber in the size up from the smallest. we have caught a few on the wiggle wart, but not at the rate of the model a. fish will be different from on day to the next. on day, they will all come on bluff faces, and the next, right on the transition ends, and the next day out on the flats. pretty much just have to put the trolling motor down, and cover water and pay attention to where the bites come from and adjust from there. bo
Champ188 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Hard to keep that spring bite in the Kings mum for very long. That river arm fishes very well but can fish very small at times. It's for that reason that I've pretty much quit fishing it in tournaments. You get half a dozen, maybe 8-9 derby boats up there, and you end up splitting up your fish to the point that no one gets paid. But, for fun fishing (especially during the week), that early spring bite up there is a hoot. Shallow power fishing can't be done just anywhere on The Rock.
Bigmo Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Merc, I haven't hit any bluffs yet but I will after the tourneys over. Champ, I actually hit some of the ugliest banks this morning. I stayed out of the way of the big boys. Rains over for now so i'm heading back out and throw a red square bill in the shallows on those same ugly banks. Think i'll leave the wart down the rest of the day. Maybe
Champ188 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Some of the best spots in the Kings are ugly to the eye. Problem in local derbies is that a lot of the guys know those spots. The Elite guys are more likely to stick to the obvious stuff.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Ugly is so often better on Table Rock. Not that they don't get on the pretty 45 degree stuff, just that they go to eat at the fish equivalent of local dives.
Bigmo Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 After the morning rain I went back to one of the banks I caught most of my fish on earlier in the day and find a wrapped boat on it. Nothing special about this bank except for the dropoff and brush someone buried on it. The pro spent over an hour on a 50 yard stretch of it but I was far enough away I couldn't tell how he was doing. Eventually he left and I threw a red wart with only two small keepers. I changed to a norman midnight sun which has a chartreuse belly and blue back. I caught 11 more with three small keepers in the next hour. I think the different color definitely helped. I figured a lot people were throwing red lures.
Bill Babler Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 i had really been keeping the kings river bite mum because i had had it all to myself. we have just been really whacking them on crankbaits. actually our best crank has been a model a bomber in the size up from the smallest. we have caught a few on the wiggle wart, but not at the rate of the model a. fish will be different from on day to the next. on day, they will all come on bluff faces, and the next, right on the transition ends, and the next day out on the flats. pretty much just have to put the trolling motor down, and cover water and pay attention to where the bites come from and adjust from there. o Bo, I was throwing that little A-bomber yesterday and my client handed me my you know what. We were fishing shallow and I had my boat turned at all times so he could cast in front of the boat and work in shallow. He was throwing an undisclosed wart pattern that I was sworn to keep to myself. I have never seen one like it. This guy was a super fisherman, just about as good a stick as there is fishing the rock. He had fished it 30 yrs. and just wanted to see another perspective. To tell you the truth I learned more than he did. All I was able to do was fish some locations from a different perspective than what he usually does. Long story short, I went to the original V38 and was able to catch up somewhat, but that A-Bomber, really let me down. Not a bite or fish on two different colors. Switched to the wide wobble wart and the party commenced. Being about as stubborn as a mule and thinking it really did not matter that if I got it in front of one he or she would eat it put me in the hole 7 to Zip. Don't get me wrong, I was tickled pink as punch he was hammering them. I just had to figure out what this old dum-dum was doing wrong. The V38 figured it out for me. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Sore Thumbs Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I know some good sacks came out of the kings today. Talked to a Marshal who was there today.
ryan Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 I think that the kings is just like every other place on Tablerock in that it's all about timing. You just have to get comfortable fishing behind other boats especially if you fish tournaments. There are def good enough fish up there to win if the conditions are right. Part of unlocking the puzzle is to know when those fish are feeding or pulling up. Most of the time I just put together a milk run and cycle through it all day if I'm on good fish. I think that's the importance of knowing your spots and your line ups on the casts that you make. I think that is one thing that separates really good fisherman and the average guy. I truly believe that confidence is your best asset in fishing, and figuring out the spot within your spots, if that makes sense.
