Its one of the toughest fisheries on planet earth.

These guys are the best bass fishermen in the world & they struggle to get a small limit.

That speaks volumes about it.

Beaver is a very good multispecies lake, though.

So Mr Bass when he did the first one here was trying to humble a lot of ego's lol ( I read that into it )

It is very tough and will make anyone a better fisherman you really have to be tuned in to the fish more than what you want to do. I know she has made me much better at that.

if you read back about Ray's first event, he chose Beaver because it was a long ways away from Montgomery, Alabama. He said he chose Beaver because if the tourney was a bust, he could just slink back home without much embarrassment from the deep south media. Another interesting tidbit about that first event, Bill Dance was ready to leave before it began because he was so intimidated about the competition. Glenn Andrews, if I remember correctly, convinced him to stay and fish it. The rest is history on both counts.

Thanks Jerry. That's interesting stuff. As I recall, Bill had a big outboard (60-70hp? I think) and was blowing the doors off everyone back then. He got 2nd place fishing a Crème worm I believe. My how times have changed from little boats to big wrapped rigs. (I do like the big wrap rigs personally where as some do not and think it's over-hyped).

Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message.

He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!

another little bit of trivia Doc. Bill Dance is credited with the first ever bass caught in BASS. He stopped at a point just out of the take off place (Prairie Creek?), and caught a keeper on a blue worm on his first cast.

Jerry I have had the pleasure of reading that and many other stories. That first tournament had so much worry and so much intimidation reading some of the old stories. Its so hard to believe it all started here. And now look at it and what its done. She still intimidates people and still gives pros fits all these years later. I wish the BASS Museum was here it rightfully should be.

you might be on to something there F&F, but unless Walmart buys BASS it will never happen.

You don't want to fish a national catfish tournament that Bill Dance is fishing.

He pretty much dominates that Big Kat circuit.

I grew up fishing the same water that he filmed shows.

Usually it's filmed at private hunting clubs along the Miss River.

Each show might take 3-4 days to get enough footage for a show.

He primarily fished on weekdays, bc the Tenn ball cap stood out on Ark waters.

Dance would wear a different set of clothes & hide that orange hat when riding past other fishermen.

He was trying to protect those pet fish. I don't blame him though.

Bill is the same guy in person as the one on TV.
