Guest Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Travis Fox is my dark horse pick. He's a local that's won quite a few big tournaments at beaver over the years. F&F is right, you gotta move around the entire lake. I wouldn't be up the river on a weekend though. Due to heavy fishing pressure, unless I was going after 1 big bass and rolling back to the mid lake area
Guest Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Let's not forget, it's crankbait time & the lake is setting up for that bite. The FLW rarely catches a stout pre spawn crank bait deal. When they do, it's a heavier weight tournament. Dan Morehead won several years back, cranking in the mid lake area. Thrift has to be burning a lot of gas right now. He's got a toad smallie & largemouth.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Trophy; this is my reasoning, mind you I never fish Beaver lol. Yesterday I would have been probing for the backs for big gals in super skinny water where the creeks dump in. They are there already I have been catching some really nice fish in them. Today is going to be cloudy and slight breeze which makes my smallmouth spidey since kick in and I know there is a limit of 3 to 4 pounders available in the Rocky Branch area possibly a kicker 5lb as well. Get my limit then run upriver to cull. Tomorrow is suppose to be relatively calm but I know the upriver area will have flow and picking big blacks off of breaks and points will be likely, yes the pressure up river will be there with Crappie and Whites and everyone including myself chasing them but hey these are suppose to be the best fishermen around they should be able to handle pressure. Sunday's forecast is a typical Ozark day and with a little bit of everything even a front coming in and the islands have always been good to me on days like that, Get my limit and then run up river and look for the cull fish. I honestly believe the key on beaver is to get your limit then use the river to Cull for the bigger blacks. I know its local knowledge and not a tournament angler who doesn't get to fish her all the time im basing it off of but 5 fish over 4 days that go 2.5 pounds average is 50lbs throw in a few kickers and 54 to 60 is possible. I just don't think people who dont fish her all the time can put a consistent 4 day pattern together. They overlook the most valuable Bass in the lake for a win in the Smallies. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Guest Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Fins, your strategy is very solid. I would put you in the top ten right now!
Bird Watcher Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Travis Fox is my dark horse pick. He's a local that's won quite a few big tournaments at beaver over the years. This guy? Been buddies with him since we were about 7 or 8 years old. Actually, I fished with him in the first tourney he ever fished when we were about 16 or 17. My Dad and I might be his biggest fan outside of his immediate family.
Guest Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Thats him, I know him from Southtown, when he worked there about 10 years ago. Super nice guy, very knowledgable, etc. He was sitting in 12th after Day 1, with 14.1lbs I hope he wins this deal....

J-Doc Posted April 11, 2014 Author Posted April 11, 2014 haha, I couldnt resist. Truth be told..........I agree with him but the fish are so lethargic, I don't know if it would actually help. They are REALLLLLLY struggling to catch a fish today. I hate that. They come here, complain about the tough conditions (and they are right because it usually is) and it just makes the lake look bad. It's a great lake. Full of good fish and some big ones too. It gets a bad rap I think. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! These guys are the best bass fishermen in the world & they struggle to get a small limit. That speaks volumes about it. Beaver is a very good multispecies lake, though.
