So my brother and I decided we needed to cross the border and actually fish The Rock. Thanks to Quillback (nice to meet you out there today Q) and Bill for some pointers on getting started. Put in at Big M at 6:30. Fished until about 1:15. Caught about 25 fish- mostly spots and one slab crappie- nothing huge- lotta fat 13-14 inchers...but got on a solid pattern and caught fish all morning.

Tried the wart, jerk baits, square billed cranks, Ned rig. But EVERY singe fish we caught was on a KaiTech. Almost all in 45 degree main lake points (some on secondary points at the opening of a cove) with chunk rock. Water was 53-55ish....

Was frustrated I couldn't get a bigger bite. Probably should have put down the KaiTech to find it but catching fish is fun. Sunny with hardly any wind this morning probably didn't help the crank bite.... All in all an awesome first day for me on Table Rock. Gonna have to spring for the full season out of state license...I'll be back.

The Rock has her own personality. She can treat you kind and others cruelly in the same day. She can push us all away. Then, with no notice and little reason she opens her arms for everyone. Bless her heart, sometimes she knows no restraint. People, like me, move here from out of state to live on her banks. Then she humbles them for two years.

Can I get an amen for that?

Well I'm just going to tack on to Bfergs report - A pleasure to meet you and your Bro also!

I caught about 25 today, plus a 20" walleye, almost all on a jig, just a couple on the Ned. Just couldn't find much of a Ned bite for some reason, so I kept slinging the jig. Pretty much all short fish - might have had 5 keepers. Fish are starting to move back in the coves, caught several back on rocky cove banks close to spawning gravel, the males are pretty close to making beds. Talked to a fellow that was fishing with his wife and they had picked up a few on the jerk bait.

Pics would not rotate, grrr....

Water temps were 52 - 56.

If they are going on beds it is possible to lose touch with them on the little rig. That is a good time for the 1/32oz head and an open hook, and more swimming vs. dragging. Not sure why. May just be the fact they are on the move.

Bferg and quillback thanks for your reports. We fished outta bigm this morning also and it was as calm as i

've seen it in a while with all the wind we've had recently. I threw the ned rig in a pbj and caught four or five non keepers right off the bat. My buddy threw a football jig and caught a couple non keepers about the same time. I put a green pumpkin senko on a 3/16 shakey head and started catching a few here and there. The wind picked up a little and we threw a wart and caught 4 or 5 more. We might have had 14 or 15 with no keepers but the majority of the fish were 14 3/4 kentuckies built like footballs. Warmest temp was close to 55 .

Welcome to the North Bferg. Heard from the guides that it was tough today with the slick conditions. Welcome to the world of the Elite Anglers as you pretty much typified there week here. Joined the 11 pound club. When it gets slick like that the splitshot rig and the wobble head may be the deal glad you caught some on the keithech baits. They were a staple for Mike in the big derby.

Beck and I are out of Baxter for a full day and will let you all know how it turns out.
