Members FrozenFingers Posted April 12, 2014 Members Posted April 12, 2014 Last year I started bowfishing some with my friends. I plan to more this year my question is because i dont eat fish what should i do with them? I hate to shoot them and let them go to waste. Some people concider it a trash fish and want them gone but I dot like to waste. Any advice?
Old plug Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I have never done it. But I fished Clearwater lake a few times just for big carp. These were turned over to a locale church to process. They cleaned them and ground up the meat. Then they mixed them with pickle relish and formed them into paddies. Some they served at the church others they froze and gave to anyone in need. they were pretty good almost like salmon cakes.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 If they are canned they are really good. Once they are canned all the bones go soft and they can be used just like tuna or mackerel. Large ones, 15# or so can be baked and the bones are large enough that they don't present problem. I know you don't eat them, but these suggestions might light some interest in someone else. There's restaurant in Omaha that specializes in carp sandwiches. From what I know they skin them, score them like suckers and then deep fry. I understand that this place has been around for a long time. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 12, 2014 Root Admin Posted April 12, 2014 I've put them in a brine solution overnight, then in the smoker. Surprisingly good.
Members FrozenFingers Posted April 13, 2014 Author Members Posted April 13, 2014 Thanks guys. I would try to eat them but i dont like to eat any fish. I know thats probably weird since I fish so much but oh well. Ill try to find some place to give them away. I think that would be best. If you know of anywhere let me know. Im located in north Springfield.
blue79 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 If you dont eat them then why are you shooting them?I can understand shooting asian carp but why shoot regular carp if your not eating them? Fishingmill 1
oneshot Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I got to agree, I don't shoot or catch anything I don't use. I will go Carp fishing a couple times a year but fry all I catch. But I come from a time when it was normal to see Carp in the Meat Case at the store. oneshot
Feathers and Fins Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Get a grinder and run the meat through it about 6 to 10 times depending on size of the carp. You can make a cocktail with it, fish tacos or even hamburger. They are also extremely good baked. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
