J-Doc Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 Guys, I've had several folks ask questions and want more info. I have at least one coming to look at the boat later this week. Possibly 2. Just putting that out there in case someone is interested in seeing it. I think she's going to sell fast. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
J-Doc Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 First person is coming to look at the boat later today and seems extremely interested. Once he sees it in person, he's going to see how clean it is and hear the motor run. Then he'll want a test ride and then money will be discussed and or exchanged...............tick tock fellas. I'm so going to miss this ole girl. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. fishinwrench Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 You're REALLY gonna miss that ol' V4 while your boatless for 6 weeks waiting on a "warranty issue" to be resolved on that brand new shiney black POS
J-Doc Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 Man that's just wrong on so many levels. Since its you, I'll let it slide. Lol!! You are a true OMC fan for sure. I just can't bring myself to get an E-Tec. I've heard lots of bad stories over the years. I think every company has "bad stories" and when the truth comes out, the story started with lack of maintenance and care. How the E-Tec works and wanting to run at WOT vs idling long time periods like trolling also scares me. I read that from several folks a few years ago. Need marine repair? fishinwrench Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 My only valid beef with Mercury marine is their annoying practice of discontinuing so many vital replacement parts after as early as 7 years and leaving it up to the aftermarket groups to pick up their slack.....That is IF any aftermarket group even chooses to. I suppose that's their way of ensuring that every Merc you'll ever see is Fresh & Pretty. On one hand I can't blame them, because I'd want those embarrassing design mistakes (like vertical throttle shafts) vanished from the planet ASAP also, had I been a part of their design/development.

Have had ZERO problems (Knock on wood!) Only advantage I can see with Merc is they seem to have a larger network of certified mechanics. Hmmm maybe there's a reason for that?? LOL! I'm thinking all of the major manufacturers of outboards are making a pretty good product these days. WM
Members 07rangerZ20 Posted April 16, 2014 Members Posted April 16, 2014 I have 07 Etec as well. Lower unit has been changed to updated unit but other than that great motor. Unbelievably quiet oil consumption with XD-100 is next to nothing. I came from a Mercury and the oil usage is incredibly less in the Etec. Probably not quite as fuel efficient as the Merc but throttle response and quietness Etec hands down. I do quite a bit of idling with the side scan have had no issues yet. 400+ hours.
1969Larson Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I have a 45-yr-old 55-HP Johnson - 3 cylinder. All it ever does is run like a champ. Every few years I disassemble and soak the carbs. That's about it. Oh, and 23 mph on GPS.
Members innova Posted April 17, 2014 Members Posted April 17, 2014 Have an 2008 Etec 150 HO purchased new in April of 2009. While derby fishing my motor is punished 100 percent of the day while running WOT. Tournaments fished. 11 in 2009. 35 in 2010 - 221 days on the water in 2010 Best year of my life!!! 0 stress. 10 in 2011 3 in 2012 2 in 2013 1 so far in 2014. When not tournament fishing I usually run somewhere between 50 and 75 percent of the throttle when moving from spot to spot. In the fall and the winter months I troll a lot for whites and stripers at idle. Service and problems by the years 2009 Nothing 2010 Lower Unit replaced under warranty due to fishing line being throw overboard. Talked with partner and problem resolved. 2010 Fuel filter replaced because bad gas. 2010 Prop damaged and replaced due to idiot behind the wheel. My Bad. 2011 Nothing 2012 Normal 3 year service 2013 Nothing 2014 Nothing Pushes a 1991 Basscat Pantera II - 63 mph on gps with tourney load and my fat butt. Best Motor I have ever owned and I have owned Honda's, Yamaha's, Mercury's and Chrysler's. This is my first Evinrude. Honestly believe it is the best product on the market today.
