dtrs5kprs Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 have you ever tried a split shot rig? With a 1/16th or 1/32 ounce weight. The ned on a weight less hook should be better? No? Love a split shot. Ned would not tell you weightless is better necessarily, but he does like the lightest head possible. Often the 1/32oz gopher. I fish it slightly bigger, and a good bit deeper than he prefers. I'm a bit wayward I guess. what weight and kind of line was you using with the 3/16. line can make a difference in the fall rate. Same as the lighter heads, six pound Invizx fluoro. You are absolutely correct on the difference line makes. Saw that in action this trip when one of my back seaters fished it on eight, behind my six. Did your hostas make it through the cold snap?
Old plug Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I am sure they will go through it as well as the 300+ inpatients and about 50 Begonias I have planted in the last couple days. The lake is in the 50s and most of the plants are within 30 yrss of the water giving me a pretty good warmth buffer. I kind of like the weather. It has kept me off the water and in the yard. Still have more to do. You are your wife like Hosta?????
dtrs5kprs Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 My wife does but she has the black thumb. Kills plants faster than roundup.
Old plug Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I was a small collector of both Hosta and Heuchera( coral bells). This past winter about wiped out my Huechera.Mostly because they were in large pots and the relentless cold finally took them out. I have about 8 or 9 that survived but I am not about to replace the 20+ I lost. I lost a few Hosta iin pots as well. At one time I had over 100 separate species. I no longer collect and more or less just want certain ones for there color shape and size. I am impartial to the giants. I do not recommend it as a hobby. It can cost thousands of dollars if you get in to deeply and serious in it. I have seen one eye of a Hosta sell for over $ 400 bucks at auction. Hostas collectors are sort of frenetical group. Tjere is a web site called The Hosta Library. sometime if your just curios google it up and you can see how deeply this plant goes.
Members kirkton Posted May 1, 2014 Members Posted May 1, 2014 If you want more tail action take the tail end and cut up an 1"1/2 or so horizontally then split it up the center to give it two little tails i did this to a few but have not yet got the opportunity to give her a whirl.. hope i explained it so ya know what I'm trying to say can't figure out how to put pictures on with my phone I'm new to the site..
dtrs5kprs Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 More tail action is not necessarily the goal with a 2 & 1/2", no feel, do nothing bait. Just a thought.
Pepe Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I like the 3/32 oz head and am experimenting with different hooks to see which is easiest to remove from the fish without injury. So far the odd angled Matzuo seems to work best for that. Nanofil with a long FC leader is what I have been using for long casts. The Nanofil is slow to sink so it offsets the slightly heavier jig. I also learned not to put the baits on the hook and store them in the boat. The heavy salt and moisture corrode the hook. I lost 2 nice fish to broken hooks recently.

Just rig a couple of the colors and sizes you expect to use the next day. Very salty. Like storing your heads in ice melt.
Members kirkton Posted May 1, 2014 Members Posted May 1, 2014 So when rigging for this how long should the bait be. Ive never tried it before just seen the post on these forums and figured id try but I'm thinking the ones i put together are gonna be to long

Should be stubby, about 2 & 1/2".
