Feathers and Fins Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Please I beg everyone keep the whites! Morning started off FOGGY which made trolling to dangerous IMO, so I went with the spider rig and jigging spoon, caught a bunch of small whites and a few buck crappie. After the fog burned off it was next to impossible to get through the whites anything from " I cant believe you ate my bait small to You would go home accept I want crappie ". 12 Bridge, Beaver Shores and the Islands were sacked in with them. I did manage to pick off a few crappie and walleye for dinner but it was tough getting through the whites. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Whites...... I'm on it chief. :-) Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
JohnF52 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I don't see how you guys can stay out there near 12 Bridge in this wind. My boat is a 1650 Xpress with a 15 inch transom. I would be afraid of getting swamped.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 It isn't a big problem, 12 Bridge is just a reference point, there are plenty of areas that are semi-sheltered you can get in if you need to. As for getting swamped it takes a big boat or a complete jerk to do it and yes it can happen but if you see either pointing your nose at the wake will help prevent it. I have however been getting off the lake earlier than I like lately as it seems more and more wake boats blasting music and throwing those wakes are showing up and I just prefer not to have to hear their music from and deal with the wake. I wish AGFC, ACE and Sherriff would crack down on it a few tickets and word of mouth would go a long way. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
JohnF52 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I was referring to the waves from wind. I was not even thinking about the wakeboats, but they could be a definite problem. I have been in a scary situation before trying to get back to PC from the Coppermine area when it turned windy in mid afternoon. Since I retired, I try to avoid windy days and weekends. The river end where I usually go is messed up now with muddy water again from last week rain, and so is Lake Sequoyah. Not many wake boats venture above 412 Bridge.
Quillback Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 It's been a windy spring this year. Forecasters are saying Monday afternoon we could get some heavy rain.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Wave generated wind I use to my advantage. I find stretches preferably 1/2 mile to 1 mile stretched that run North South or East West and play the wind. For instance a North or South wing I will fish Beaver shores going into or against it when I find the direction the fish are biting in best I check my speed. I then duplicate it going the other direction. Often times people wonder why they bite one way and not the other and its more times than not the speed. Speed is easy to duplicate by dropping the electric motor to increase against the wind or decrease with the wind which creates strikes in both directions. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

zarraspook Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 This Beaver Lake channel of the forum is pretty much all about trolling, John. That is because trolling is the best way to "load-the-boat" ... At $ 3.50 per gal for gas; trolling can bring the average of $55/lb for fish to a reasonable $20/lb.... "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
