REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 So you really want someone to have to REMOVE the engine rather than just NOT USE IT? C'mon man...don't be a jackass. This sounds like a jealousy thing going on here, does it not? it's not jealousy, just would like to see everyone follow regulations
John Andrews Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 to the OP, were they running the "oversize" motors on the lake or were they using their trolling motors? I understand what the law says just curious what you observed... They were running it. I talked with a police officer on friday. According to him. Any boat equipped with a motor larger than 6 horse power is not legal, running or not. I assume this is fact and not just his opinion. So I will report those I see and let them sort it out. mentioned above was the issue of people drinking on the lake. I am not a drinker so I never worried much about if it was legal or not. I honestly believe in following posted rules, laws, etc. Like them or not. If infact drinking is breaking the law they also should be reported. Now dont get me wrong here. In my younger days, I broke laws. When caught, I paid the piper so to speak. If I get caught speeding on the way to the lake in the morning, I will have to pay the price. I am no saint, and by no means am I perfect. If anyone see's me breaking the law and they report me doing it. I have no hard feelings towards them. I was the "lawbreaker" they were someone standing up for what they believe is right. FISH ON EVERYONE
Goggle-Eyed Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Thanks for your response.... I have been on numerous lake with HP restrictions and always keep my "big" motor trimmed up and out of the water while on them. I have never had a problem with people. I also do go on a lake with 25HP restriction with my 35hp jet motor, the lake is only used to get to the river that has no HP limit (go figure) but I always figure if I get a ticket it is my own fault... Personally, I don't see an issue with anyone bringing a boat that has a big motor as long as they don't "run" their big motor.... I guess I get the safety aspect of HP restrictions, Just don't get why it would be a problem if I had my 19' aluminum boat in the water with the motor trimmed up... what if the motor was inoperable, would I be legal then? I hate laws that are in place that don't make sense, I get it if the "big" motor is "running" but if they drop the boat in the water and never fire the big motor, what does it matter??? Heck, I lived in WA state and they had HP restricted lakes, which only meant you couldn't "run" your big motor... Kinda funny that a liberal butt state like that is easier to deal with than Springfield Mo!!! LOL Anyway, I have an extra boat that meets the HP requirements so I will use that boat if fishing your lake! Joe
Flysmallie Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 You used to be able to do that. Leave the motor trimmed up and just run the trolling motor. But people couldn't follow those rules either so they shut it down.
hoglaw Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Pumpback lake in Oklahoma used to be one of my favorite fishing destinations. It's electric motor only. I wish I could take my big boat out there and fish it but they are zero tolerance on no gas motors on the lake period. I called the GRDA office to ask one of the officers if I could use my big boat and leave my motor trimmed up. He said absolutely not and if he caught me he would write me a big ticket. He seemed mad that I even asked. They patrol it with helicopters. A lot of the guys out there have full size bass boats with three trolling motors lined up on the back and one on the front. It's rediculous. What I suspect the poster is really complaining about is that even if the big boats don't run their motors, if they can get on the water that means more pressure. I get it.
BATCAB27 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Fishinwrench, you have this right on. Being out there with the big motor up only using the trolling motor hurts nobody. Now, the guy who has his big boat sitting in the driveway and went and spent a couple grand on a boat so he could "legally" fish on Spfld Lake, he's pissed.
Champ188 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I believe there's some glitter and HP envy going on here.
Riverwhy Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Champ, I laughed about the envy angle earlier today. I think you pretty muched hit the nail. i would like to think we would allow all boats and just not allow the big motor to be used. Although, I guess in this case it sounds like the rules prohibit that.
Champ188 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 If people break the law by using their big engines, write them a ticket and order them off the lake. If they do it again, revoke their privilege to use the lake. Sounds to me like what Mr. Andrews truly wants is a state of discrimination, which the present law may prescribe but the city is reluctant to enforce for fear someone will challenge it and it will be struck down. The city might as well tear their signs down now if indeed they are allowing BPS to come over there and run boats over 6 HP. If Johnny can, anyone can.
Flysmallie Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I would love for them to change it back like it was 20+ years ago.
