Members GoinIke33 Posted May 19, 2014 Members Posted May 19, 2014 Got a 5.7 so close to that boat! Got 3rd overall... Lol fun tournament an congrats to you who won the boat!!!
Alex Heitman Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Enjoyed the tournament but man could never get the big one. All in the 2 1/2 lb range. We probably caught over 130 fish total for both days.

Brother and I caught a boat load of fish but nothing over 2.5lbs. Tournament was fun as usual. All the guys weighing in fish for a check came from the river arms from what I gather. I fished the dam area and just nothing going there other than 1-2lb kentuckies and smallies. Fish where caught on just about everything we threw but had best results on a wobble head with a beaver style bait on it. Already game planning for next year.
Chris King Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Same here...we caught probably 30 keepers but our biggest was only 2.83 (worth $100 though). Had a 2.62 and a pair of low two smallies. Fished around point 5/Spring Branch. Caught the larger one on a spook early. Great weekend for sure and the tournament was great as always.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 From what I heard from folks who were able to fish during the cold and wet, the better fish were eating then. At a guess those fish around the dam might have been dropping eggs. Pretty tough to catch then. River fish might have been done, and ready to eat post spawn style.
Alex Heitman Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 They might have been dropping eggs but I did not see a lot on beds. The water was not as clear though so it was harder to see them of they were deeper. I found loads of LM and thought I might be on something but they were all spawned out.
Champ188 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 A lot of those better SM usually spawn deeper where they are really hard/impossible to see, especially during low-water years.
mwfischer Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Anyone know where the winner was caught? Was fishing club tournament Saturday morning across from a couple guys who were celebrating a catch big time and bolted out of the cove around the time the 6# was caught. Wife and I were thinking that may have been a BB attempt.

And the blacks will spawn deeper in that clear water by the dam than you would think, especially the better ones. Gut feeling is they fed up in the rain, then got to business. Had a few pics sent to me that indicate it. A good brownie, and a black I would guess around 22" in the wet on Wednesday. They are in my fabulous flip phone. Don't laugh, it works for everything else I need it to do.
