Members Nedrig fan Posted May 15, 2014 Members Posted May 15, 2014 The best way I have fond to get fins to wake is. Get Dave (dtrs5kprs) to take you to the store, he tells you that you need these, you buy them, let him tweek them and then they all work atleast thats how I have 4 fins in my box and they all wake just fine
Members GoinIke33 Posted May 15, 2014 Members Posted May 15, 2014 I tested mine out yesterday an it goes about 2-3 inches under water...is that what it's suppose to do or is it suppose to be on top an make a wake ...I have never thrown one so I'm not to sure. Thanks!

Thanks! Either it is just diving too much, or you might be winding it to fast. Try pulling it slower, with your tip high, and in the same direction as the bait. Look back through the old fin threads for more tips. Did you change the hardware? What line are you running? Might just be a bad one too.
Members GoinIke33 Posted May 15, 2014 Members Posted May 15, 2014 Ok. I have 10 pound flouro an I changed the hooks an split rings.. I have a Norman swivel on maybe that's the problem too?
5bites Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Swivel and for sure flouro are the death sentence to topwaters of any kind.

You need to throw it on something besides that 10# FC. That is problem number one. If you don't want to use braid, go with a mono in the 15#-17# range to help create line drag and keep that bait on top. Braid does that better than anything else, but has its own issues. Hooks should be light wire...gammies, or Daiichi. Smaller rings. I use a #1 or at most a #2 snap up front, after removing the split ring.
Members GoinIke33 Posted May 15, 2014 Members Posted May 15, 2014 Ok awesome I got a spool with braid I'll try it on that! Thanks for your help dtrs5kprs!!!!
dtrs5kprs Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Ok awesome I got a spool with braid I'll try it on that! Thanks for your help dtrs5kprs!!!! It will throw a mile on braid, and hooks up well. Make sure it is not the "sinking" braid, the Sufix 832. Soft rod is a plus with braid. I've used 30# and 50# power pro. The 30# does throw better.
5bites Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 What's the heating trick? Is this like the boiling trick?
