Coming down to Shell Knob this weekend and was going to try the wobble head. Are there still a decent amount of fish being caught on it or are fish starting to transition to other baits? 2nd - Do you fish it more like a football jig or is it more of a steady retrieve bouncing the bottom every now and again?

Lastly - what size head do you recommend and is there one specific plastic that BPS sells that you all recommend? (looking at all the diff plastics can just overwhelm you sometimes)

Thanks guys as always.

Big,

I got mine from SwingOil baits. Keeps the money local and his stuff is top notch. He has them in 1/4, 3/8 and 7/16oz if I recall. So size I guess is relative to what depth you are fishing and wind conditions. The shallower the less weight you would need. If I had to pick just one I'd probably go with the 7/16oz because that extra weight allows for longer casts, goes through the wind better and also gets to the bottom quicker. Sometimes with heavier jigs and stuff there is can be a negative trade off with them getting hung up on the bottom more often with the extra added weight but with the wobble head I really felt no draw back in getting snagged more. Swing Oil not only has a billion color heads to chose from but his prices are so fair on them compared to actual Biffle Hard heads or other brands that it almost seems criminal to pay what Frank is asking. They were eating the wobble real well when I left on Sunday so I see no reason they wouldn't be all over it this upcoming weekend. Also the great thing about the wobble head is that it can be fished slow or fast...very versatile bait. If I had to recommend a soft plastic to pair it up with i would say any type of craw imitator. Brush hogs, beaver baits, craw baits or whichever you prefer. If I had to go with one I would get a 4 or 5" beaver style bait myself. Any and all should do the trick. Good luck.

Yeah they are still eating it. I use a 1/2 oz head with the 4 -5 inch Biffle or beaver type baits, and a 3/8 with smaller stuff like UV Speed Craws and worms. Swing Oil makes a good rig, but I'm partial to a Pigsticker baits Pig Rig has a split ring attached between the head and the hook, so you can change out hooks to suit your bait or if your hook point gets rolled. Dunno if you can do that with a Swing Oil head.

Should get better as it gets hotter, kind of like the FB jig bite. Think we have just been overlooking it in the spring.

I have less trouble with them hangin up than other jigs . gives the bait a little more action too I think.

x 2 on this.

You are correct the Swing Oil doesn't have the ability to change out hooks but it doesn't bother me at all. If the hook point gets rolled I would say I probably landed enough fish on it that I got my money's worth out of it.

Agreed. Same bite as FB jig, more versatility as to what you can present to the fish.

And it is another bait that levels the field for kids, wives, others who may not be great with the FB jig.

I resent that!
