Wayne SW/MO Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The trend toward GMF's is a good reason to grow as much food as you can. They're slipping one by us with this by only addressing the modification and not the way it's used in the fields. I remember the peanuts in Coke, never understood it, but i remember it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
jdmidwest Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 The yuppers and city folk have come up with a few good ideas like the raised beds and square foot garden. On the farm, we just laid aside about an acre near the house for the garden. Cellar for the taters and onions, all of the canned goods. Deep freeze for the other veggies like corn. Orchard for fruit and jellies, grape vines for grape juice. Those were the days, hard work and better living. Feathers and Fins Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 The one major advantage in technology I do like is vacuum bags. Makes keeping things much easier and last longer. I have Wild Game that will hold for a year, well it would if we didn't eat it all before then BEFORE it would last maybe a couple months if you froze it even with the best of care. Plus I love the idea I can mix up what I want for a meal in them and have it ready to go. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 There used to be pick your own farms around the KC area 50 years ago. I don't hear of any now and I wonder why. Do they still exist? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
ollie Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 There are still a couple around here that let you pick blue berries and strawberries, but those are the only ones I can think of. Back in the days there use to be lots of them.
