dtrs5kprs Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 One of the deals with the button or mushroom heads is their width compared to ball heads of similar weight. Seems to keep them out of some of the little spaces in rocks. Might be imagining that, but others have had the same idea. Don't believe that was in the other thread.
5bites Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Always hope that kind of answer does not seem like a brush off, sure do not mean it to be. Just trying not to bog folks down with asked and answered info. Can certainly do that if needed. No not at all. I've just been getting slowly more and more curious about it. I know this site is loaded with Ned info. I see what you are saying about hang ups. That makes sense. I also kinda thought it might let it stand better by putting a wider footprint on the bottom. Maybe not. I keep aiming to buy enough to get me started but I've yet to find the right plastics close to home. I'll just have to order it probably.
Champ188 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 The flat "back side" of the mushroom head also seems to provide a larger surface for glueing the bait to the head.
Pepe Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I learned to flatten small ball head jigs by putting them in a vice and hammering the soft lead flat. I think I read that in an In-Fisherman article years ago where the subject was jig head shapes for specific purposes. I do that now for the 1/16th oz ball heads, based on another poster's suggestion. I think shape does matter.
