Quillback Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Yeah the rolling around in fake extreme pain is something, that as someone who hasn't watched hardly any soccer, I find to be annoying. Every time someone makes contact with another player, one of them ends up on the ground rolling around like they've been shot. About 1 out of ten times it's legit.
ollie Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 The ref yesterday didn't buy any of that crap! He let them play on and didn't buy into any diving. I'll give him credit for that at least. Actually I thought the ref called a good game. In days past I would have liked a tie, but after seeing what we could have done. I feel let down almost. Almost, it still was a great game. I still feel let down from yet. Your right, the official wasn't buying any of the faking. Granted for everyone out there, it may look like whining but when that is the ONLY break your going to get for a 45 minute half, I think you steal a breather any way that you can.
ollie Posted June 23, 2014 Author Posted June 23, 2014 Lancer you are correct in saying it maybe the only break you can get for awhile. That's why Zusi took his sweet time getting off the field when subbed. Hey when you are up by one you stall whenever you can! mhowerton Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I hear you there GD. A tie means they both lost. And what's with the writhing in pain when you get bumped and fall down? I've never understood that. I've seen REAL football players get a limb snapped in two, get up and run/hop off the field. Weenies. The difference is that a "REAL" football player can go sit on the bench for a couple plays and recover. How many running backs and wide receivers do you see touch their helments to get taken out after a 25 yard run. Soccer players go for 45-50 minutes without a break. The dramatics are just an excepted way to allow you and your teammates to grab a short breath. No timeouts or huddles to catch your breath or regroup.

Yeah, yeah I know they go a long time and thats hard. My post was largely tongue-in-cheek. Their athleticism is phenomenal. It's the fakery that's over the top. Yesterday I saw a guy get kicked in the hand -- didn't look too bad--his hard hardly moved. But he dropped to the ground, grabbed his face and was screaming. That's a guy trying to draw a call, not somebody catching his breath. Accepted? Maybe. But I still saw it as BS. John
stlfisher Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 The diving is silly, but is part of the game. Every team does it..some are better actors than others. Ties are like the BCS...they are annoying, but they sure make things interesting. There is no real good way to decide soccer games in overtime...penalty kicks kinda suck, but you could potentially have teams playing forever. No real good answer. This world cup has been awesome to watch and Thursday is going to be incredible. I think ghana wins, but we tie germany 1-1 and we both advance.
BATCAB27 Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 the ties are one of the reasons its hard for me to watch soccer. Why not just go with the first team to score in OT wins? US and Germany could agree to tie the next game and they would both advance. Any sport with this possibility has problems. And whats up with the cards? Yellow card, red card? Could you imagine if Wainwright beaned a guy and instead of giving a warning the ump pulled out a yellow card? WTF? But the worst part of soccer has to be the clock. Clock's in sports count down, not up. I'd like to know when the game will be over, not when the ref would like it to end. When a player is injured, or flopping around acting like they are injured, just blow a whistle and stop the darn clock. Seems to work in other sports. I'll continue to watch our boys for no other reason than my undying patriotism, but I'm far from ordering the MLS channel anytime soon.
ollie Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 Gee Batcab27 tell us how you really feel. That's ok that your not a fan and only watching for your patriotism. The rest of us will watch the games with joy in our hearts! REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I would have agree with batcab, soccer is kind of a bass akwards sport.
