Sac River Jim
i talked to my friend Mike who lives up on sons creek and he has caught 8 to 10 of them mostly short fish starting last year hes got an interesting theory. the ones hes caught have been on brush piles that hold crappie and traditional crappie spawning banks as far up as CC bridge and just above powerline cove over on the suns creek arm. hes been watching out for this guy for a year now and he thinks and its speculation only that whoever it is probly launches at ruark bluff because its centrally located and he believes its a single person getting po'd cause he's catching bass while crappie fishing. When I'm fishing out of ruark i'm gonna keep my eye out on those brush piles along the bluff over at the powerline.
Dirtracer35
We've found fish like this all around the lake. Not just around Ruark. Bass have fairly small home areas and have not traveled far unless by boat.
navery
It's obvious it's an intentional cut as it is clean and tears are jagged. You would disclocate the jaw from a tight drag and huge hookset with braid. It is either from a knife but probably from dikes or snips. Just as was mentioned earlier, even high speed trolling would not do this as the rod will flex and absorb shock as it is designed to. The brushpile theory is a good one, but as was also mentioned, this is probably a local fisherman to be able to affect this many fish. Are there brushpiles near all the affected areas? I would keep an eye on people who are fishing these isolated areas. Hope the person is caught and equipment seized.
9LB
That is ridiculous. I can not imagine. If your gonna take the time to cut it up, you might as well fillet it ! Someone like this usually will be braggin to some other white trash poacher not sportsmen like we have on this site. I will keep eyes and ears peeled. I got a new pair of Nikons I can get right in your face from across the lake.

Like I said I have rarely seen this type of sereated jaw, but from 50 years of bass fishing, I have seen this type of jaw on occassion for many years and on several different lakes. fishbait3
My wife is a environmental science major and she state that its caused by cutting and and who ever is doing it is probably targeting other species and has been catchin bass. She also stated that with those cut it will be harder for us bass fishermen to catch for when we try to set the hook it will slip right out. Ill be on the lake tomorrow and ill keep an eye out as well.

Champ188
It just boggles the mind that one guy could catch and disfigure enough bass that two others (dprice and Dirtracer35) could catch 70-plus of them. How many hundreds of thousands ... if not millions ... of bass are swimming in that 25,000-acre lake? The odds are astro-freakin-nomical. How many of these disfigured fish are swimming around down there for TWO guys to catch 70-plus between them?

This thing is really intriguing and a total shame, however and whoever.
