Jerry Rapp Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I will say this Red, the Cardinals have a heck of a lot better chance to make the World Series this year than the Red Sox. Next year, maybe not.
Quillback Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 Yep, Cards SHOULD be in the playoffs this year.
Quillback Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 Sox beat the Yanks last night, man what a change to their lineup these trades have made.
Quillback Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 i don't feel it was worth it, 1 decent player and 1 unproven pitcher vs. 1 battle tested veteran, who after tommy john surgery, has a young arm again. And Lackey signed some contract that only pays him $500K next year, which is pocket change these days in MLB.
BATCAB27 Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 And Lackey signed some contract that only pays him $500K next year, which is pocket change these days in MLB. assuming he doesn't retire
Quillback Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 I saw an article as quoting him as saying he planed to play next year at that low salary.
Jerry Rapp Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 he signed his 5 year contract in 2010. A stipulation was if he had Tommy Surgery during the life of the contract his last year of the contract would be $500,000. He had Tommy John surgery in 12 or 13. And still got paid his millions while he recovered. The Red Sox gave him mucho money with a common sense clause in it. They have upheld their part, and by trading him to the Cardinals, Lackey should be expected to uphold his end of the bargain. It's not like he is lacking spending money for a new rod/reel. If he does good the remainder of the year, I am pretty sure the Cardinals will sweeten his paycheck a bit next year.
Quillback Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 Lackey is a competitor, works hard, he may do well in the NL.
REDSOXWSCHAMP Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 lackey will do great in the NL, he is a workhorse and innings eater, the cardinals should love having him for the stretch run and at his severly discounted price next season.
Quillback Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Watched some of the Sox/Yankee game last night. Bucholz was terrible. He's very inconsistent, throws some great pitches, then he'll groove one down the middle. He's having trouble with his follow through, delivering the pitch then tripping over his own feet. The guy needs to spend some time with a pitching coach (I'm sure he is).
