Big Brown Trout Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 hey guys, lately I have been looking at various wiggle and diver fly patterns, the few I have tied did either nothing or not really enough in the water to really get close to what I want, I found this video of a fly titled wiggle minnow but I can't figure out how the guy tied it or what gives it the action in the video. do any of you know a pattern that can do this action? also the actual wiggle minnow pattern I have seen has nowhere near this kind of movement in the water. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YD1Yy9hMqzs&list=PLInXk5--YE-RnUOywT3hBdFtq3hFEYVNl&index=144 Let the summer of Carp, begin.
ColdWaterFshr Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Oooh, that looks like a dandy. Really like the action. Where is the recipe to tie it?
Flysmallie Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 It's Todd's Wiggle Minnow. Here are a couple of links that will help. http://youtu.be/2l2nF-fIlaY http://hatchesmagazine.com/page/month/331
Ozark Sweetwater Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 One of my favorite patterns. The key is getting the face cut at the right angle and making sure you get the hump in the middle. In order to get the right action, tie it on using a loop knot and fish it on a sink tip line. http://ozarksweetwater.com
Big Brown Trout Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 thanks Flysmallie and Trigg, I will try this out. I just wonder why the videos I found of Todd's wiggle minnow didn't have nearly this action. also Flysmallie what is the mono loop for in that link from hatches? is it to prop that tail up or does it serve another purpose. Let the summer of Carp, begin.
Flysmallie Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 The loop is to help keep the tail from fouling around the hook. Trigg has fished them way more than me but I know they produce well from talking to him.

Jason R. Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I tie some with balsa that work really well- posted this one before I think. They take a bit longer to spin up though. http://flyinthesouth.blogspot.com/2013/02/balsa-swimming-minnow.html http://flyinthesouth.com/
Big Brown Trout Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 that looks cool Jason, I will have to look into that. Let the summer of Carp, begin.
