Guest Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I've been waiting for a chance to float the Elk. We decided that sunday afternoon would be the least crazy as compared to the other days. Hopefully, the drunks pack up & go home by that time. I'm sure the beer can trail is right down the middle of the river, as it was last year. New beer cans seem to spook fish due to the flash. 1 of my best deep holes was littered with a case of bud light cans, as it they tied up & sank beers for hours. zero bass Nearly ran over another canoe that tipped in a fast water riffle, missed them by a few inches. Drunks cussing, punching, fighting amongst themselves I will post a full report next week if we do any good.
Quillback Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Good luck, maybe bring a camera and post some "wildlife" photos for us?
ollie Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Oh the bikini hatch is in full swing! "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Members Kcdangler Posted July 8, 2014 Members Posted July 8, 2014 That's sad river ranch is wal mart on the river they need to clean that mess up there a couple other large ones but they put the most canoes out and sell the most dung in that river
ollie Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Yea, it's sad that the once lovely Elk has turned into a cesspool during the summertime. I can remember as a kid going there to the old Ginger Blue and eating Sunday brunch and then we would also float on the weekends and hardly see anyone. Man the fishing was easy back then, I just didn't realize it! darbwa Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I was there last Tuesday and the fishing was very good (I should go post a little report even though I'm late). But the thing I kept thinking was how disappointing it was to see how much trash is just discarded into that beautiful river. I had the same thought while floating the Illinois on Father's day. I feel like people in Arkansas are so much more interested in taking care of the rivers than the Okies and Missourans.

Lancer09 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Irony is that most of the floaters are college age kids from Arkansas and Oklahoma. This. We were down there floating with my family three weeks ago and there weren't many MO people it seemed like. LOT of Arkansas and Kansas people.
Guest Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 The fishing was as good as it gets. Im writing an article for the In-fisherman & will post it soon. The sunday morning rain sent everybody home. There were trucks loaded down with camping gear getting on the interstate when we got off at Pineville. There were very few canoes on the river that afternoon. Anyways, excellent fishing & minimal problems for a holiday weekend.
