Members line wetter Posted July 15, 2014 Members Posted July 15, 2014 Anyone catching any big bluegill? Also any suggesdtions on good bluegill baits besides messy crawlers?
Quillback Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 I caught a couple today drop shotting for bass, both were big enough to fillet. They were in 20 FOW off gravel points, I think there were quite a few down there judging by what I saw on my screen. If I was going to target them, I'd probably drop shot crickets or red worms.
Fish24/7 Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 http://www.in-fisherman.com/2014/06/17/deep-panfish-tackle/ good read
Bill Babler Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 They were going really well about 2 weeks ago. You could load the boat with hand size gills, using crickets in the 18 to 30 ft. range on the timbered points and the chunk rock point. You can still catch some, but it is really winding down. We were just having a fit with them fishing crawlers for K's, but they seem to be mostly gone now. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Members line wetter Posted July 18, 2014 Author Members Posted July 18, 2014 Fish 24/7, that was a good article. rps - I had used the Berkeley trout worms a couple of years ago when the blugill were spawning around the baxter area. They worked great then with a cast and slow reel. Haven't tried them optherwise but will this saturday in the deeper water witht he same methoid and see what happens. crawlers and worms always work but trying to get away from the mess. Might pick up a can of those fishsers cloice crickets and see what they do. I'll post back afetr the weekend and let ya'll know if I ended up with a fish fry or not.
Quillback Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Cool, I'll be interested to hear how you do, picked one up on the drop shot today that was big enough to fillet.
Members line wetter Posted July 22, 2014 Author Members Posted July 22, 2014 Here's my report. Went to Stockton instead of Table Rock, lots less crazies on a Saturday. Didn't find the big bluegill. Caught small bluegill, bass, catfisha nd walleye. Did manage one keeper walleye that was lunch Sunday. Caught on nioght crawlers and preserved crickets. Nothing on the nibbles. Had some of the gulp worms but didn't try them.
Quillback Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I was out fishing on Table Rock near Big M this morning - spotted bluegill on beds in a couple of areas.
Fish24/7 Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 those little gills are so much more agressive than their parents, it's hard to get a big bite sometimes, sounds like you had a nice lunch though
