I did that when I was kid (bluegill) on a Father Son YMCA trip in the Boundary Waters. Pretty fun actually.

I've done the exact same thing at terre du lac and on the Black River... Both were clear enough to snorkel and the bluegill were not shy. We called it finger fishing

Mitch it is pretty common to he nipped by bluegill swimming around docks. I was told they are after something on your skin or dry skin. The interesting thing I found was the reaction of the other fish throughout the the fight. I really expected to se some spooking. The other thing I noticed was when the fish hit. I am convinced it was because of aggravation.

I hand lined a couple grouper like that while free diving in the Keys years ago. Not sure if it was legal, and it's not very sporting. Fish seem to have no fear of divers so it's no problem to catch them.

I got all excited when I watched it the first time and thought it said the "upper NIANGUA" I was ready to float down to Bennett Spr!
