You all got a set of scales at hls? Seems you would be in a good place to have a set.

Very good idea!!

Mitch, Do you know the length of your fish? Great one btw. I'm guessing the one from today is approx 42". It's laying in a 100 qt ice chest in the 2nd photo.

That's not me, or my fish....I just pulled the picture of a 54 pound striper off the internet for comparison purposes

This one is from Beaver this spring. 40 by 26 and was 35lbs. It's hard to say from a pic, but I'll side with everyone else. Wish I knew how to scuba, seeing one of those bad boys up close would be awesome.post-17125-0-95960500-1407184234_thumb.j

Taylor pics can be deceiving I would have guessed it at 40lbs easy. Nice fish

Here are two of mine length and girth in pic. The Big one was 42.4lbs and the little one was 18.7lbs both fish weighed on a certified scale. Im 6'04 for comparison and my shoulders were digging in to my side to hold those fish my hand holding the big one across the knuckles is 4.50 inches.

Chris Johnson, manager of the fishing department at Cabela's, must not have been present for this weigh-in because he would have recognized that fish didn't weigh 54 pounds.

On a positive note, there are two less mature stripers in the lake. :XD:

Yep.........there are a lot of happy perch and gizzard shad in the lake now.

OH! And a TON of happy 10-12" spotted bass. More food for them as well since they like to hang out on and near the shoreline and eat everything in site.

Chris is a good dude. He found me at the ramp and asked how I was treated with my new rig. He wanted to make sure I had been taken care of. I appreciated that.

And I appreciate anyone from Cabelas posting pictures of fish or any other contributions here.

To the original poster, forgive our objective & "grumpy" nature. We are all just jealous we do not have one of these in our fish pictures from fishing (not spear hunting). Well..........at least almost every one. :yum:

yea, I started thinking about how this thread got slammed with what seems like negativity. Really not directed at the poster, but more so at the notion of the fish being that size. Its bigger than any fish that I have ever caught in anyway, shape, or form. Hats off to the guys for being able to spear something like that I think. I might have just been a little apprehensive with something that size swimming so close to me.

Hey, we have to be able to call out each other on BS things. If we were sitting at the boat dock and a guy pulls a 12oz crappie from the livewell and then tries to tell us its a 4lb fish any one of us is gonna call BS on it. Light heartedly of course. :)

Im not opposed to calling it... but the info was not first hand or even second hand but someone who heard some people say it and didn't verify it. Did they say it before the scale stopped jumping. was the scale even accurate he did they say they had to mad scramble to find a scale and that store is full of scales. WAY to many non-first hand info without even length and girth. Combine that with posting it on a forum where many members have caught large stripers and are comparing it to 30's and 40's with know size it was a BS CALL worth calling.

Rule number 1 in fishing if you say you caught a whopper you better be able to back it up or its a fishtail. Rule number 2 don't bring a clicker in my boat if you don't want to cry for it.
