ciRe Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 For 3 weeks for work. Idk what kind of fishing gear to bring down yet. What is good down there to fish for? I tend to fly fish and bass fish more than anything.
Mitch f Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 You can fish the Blakley and Carpenter Dams for one. In the Spring, walleye come up to Blakley dam, you might get stripers now. You can also travel to mount Ida and fish the Ouachita river. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
bfishn Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Simply put, everything. For bass try Quachita, and wet your flies in upper Lake Catherine (Hamilton tailwater). The first few miles below the Hamilton dam has trout, stripers, & walleye. Cabins right there if so inclined. Or floating Catherine's tailwater for bass & walleye. Or.... I can't dance like I used to.
jdmidwest Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 No trout this time of year in the upper part of Hamiliton. They stock it in the cooler months, gets too warm for them in the summer. There is a trout stream near by that feeds Quachita if I remember right. I never did make it up to fish it. I have a friend that lives and works in Hot Springs. He just hired a guide for the stripers and did pretty well 2 weeks ago on Quachita. For the most part, you are going to need a boat. ciRe Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 Dang. I'm pretty sure att won't let me put a boat behind my work van.
jdmidwest Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Why not? Tell them you have to check underwater cables. Might have to make a service call to a marine phone. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Mitch f Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Dang. I'm pretty sure att won't let me put a boat behind my work van. You don't need a boat. Fish the tail waters of tbe dams. I'll ask my buddies who live there for some advice for you and PM you back "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Guest Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 you can float or wade the Quachita river before it enters the Lake up near Oden. Its a dam good smallmouth fishery.
marcusearlt Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 There is one canoe rental place I know of for the Ouchita River. It's on the corner of Broadway and 270 in Pencil Bluff, about 40 miles east of Hot Springs. It is cash only and there is not an ATM for miles around so go prepared. The guy who runs the place is super cool. He's an old military guy and has some really interesting stories to tell. You leave your car at the shop and he shuttles you on the put in and take out, due to private property reasons. I floated back in June and the river looked great.
