Quillback Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I was wondering what had been getting into the melons. No big deal at this point, it's been a great year for cantaloupe and melons, had enough of them.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Well at least he can't climb a short fence, can he? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I might have to start planting melons to draw them into the yard. Lol. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

jdmidwest Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I see a few in the strawberry patches from time to time. I have even seen them eat a few cucumbers. For some reason, I did not see any this year. There has been one hanging around for several years with a scar on his shell like he was hit by a mower. It has not been seen this year. Quillback Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 You could try trapping it, or if you are sneaky might be able to shoot it! HAHA, but like Ham, I like the little fellers.

I didn't know much about them until yesterday when I did a little reading. They are territorial and long lived. They can live up to 50 years. it's very unusual to see juveniles.
