WHARFRAT Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Ah, finally summer is winding down. Shootout going on, labor day just around the corner, water temp peaking, and big boats beginning to hibernate. By October, us anglers will have our water back! It doesn't really bother me, that I don't fish too much in the summer time. I do get out for a couple of hours early in the morning, but the traffic and the heat usually gets me back doing something else by mid-morning. Last weekend you could tell on my end of the lake, that school was back on, significantly less boat traffic. We were able to get out comfortably almost anytime we wanted. And except for the 3-dayer coming up, it'll just keep getting better. I'm not a hot weather person, so my fishing time on the lake is very minimum. Now Sept-May is a different story. I'm usually out there all daylight hours. (the gas stations love me). And if we don't have a lot of "hard" water, I have no problem being out there in Jan-Feb. (my best day for big crappie came when I couldn't go past Bridal Cave because of the ice). I thought this year, more than other years for me, the pre-spawn for crappie was excellent. Though I did have a real good week just before Thanksgiving, where we caught big numbers of 1lb+ crappie. Now on the other hand, I thought this years spawn was subpar, only thing I could figure was the low water levels. Probably not, but I'm going to stick with that excuse! Early post spawn sucked on our end of the lake, that was mid-may till about the first of June, then as they settled into their deeper habitat, it got better. Can't really tell you much about end of June thru now, Caught a few, but nothing to write home about. So, just saying, I'm really looking forward to the upcoming autumn! @lozcrappie
stuartsx5 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 It is hard to beat fall and early winter on Lake of the Ozarks. Earl Stuart fishin is livin

WHARFRAT Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Big Niangua looks like the LA freeway today! @lozcrappie
fishinwrench Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Yeah there is undoubtedly more lake traffic this weekend than there has been all Summer. I/O's are blowing up right and left, PWC's crashing into each other, ect. The watercraft accident/casualty statistic (which was already equal to 2013 a month ago) is likely to set an all time high. All of the increased "awareness" and intense law enforcment hasn't helped anyone but the lawyers so far.
MOsmallies Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Not catching many this weekend but caught the shorts good tonight on the shakey head.

This is river/creekin' weather! Ya wanna hit a nearby stretch ? I'm going "somewhere" about noon today as long as it isn't threatening a T-storm.

I'm going "somewhere" about noon today as long as it isn't threatening a T-storm. Sorry - I just saw this this morning. I would have loved to been on a creek or river somewhere, but my wife's whole family was heading down to the lake so I headed that way too. We had to leave the lake yesterday morning because my wife had to work last night.... Otherwise I would have loved to try and meet up to fish a river stretch. I'm trying to plan a weekend in November with a couple guys from here (Scott and Mitch). If we can get something planned, I'll let you know and maybe we could meet up and fish a bit or at least drink a few beers. In regards to the lake fishing, we were relegated to fishing near our house as my father-in-laws big motor broke down. Something with the carburetor he believed??? We only caught three 15-16" keepers all weekend and probably ten 12-14" shorts. Shakey Head (Trick Worm) and Jig... And my father-in-law caught some on a weightless senko. I can't get him to put it down but he's still catching a few on it.
fishinwrench Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Sounds good, gimme a shout whenever. Be glad to help with the John-rude too if needed I paddled/hiked up to Burnt Mill and had a fun day. Got off the stream just before the heavy rain hit.

If you the "Wrench" over to Bills place I'm gonna trailer a smoker down there.....We'll get the brisket and ribs on early and fish a little and chow down after catching a few hawgs on some buzz baits.....hopefully
