Dutch Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I haven't been in quite a while as I had some minor surgery and have been rehabbing for the last few weeks. I'm thinking next week might be worth a trip but and not sure where to start, ( Pom, Lindley, dam area)? Are the bass deep or shallow? Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, or jigs and worms?
fishinwrench Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I haven't wet a line on Pomme in almost a decade, but I'd bet it's a darn tough bite right now. I bet if you headed way up the Pomme arm until the boat hit bottom, then wade up another mile or so you'd find a decent bite.
Members 3-Liter Posted August 23, 2014 Members Posted August 23, 2014 Have not been on Pomme since July. Found some fish in brush piles then, but no pattern. Watermellon Biffle Bugs worked for us a little. Will be back in early October, hopefully cooler weather will help get the fish more active. 3-Liter
DChance Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Haven't been in two weeks but did catch some on a shakes head and big worm. No real pattern but seemed brush was effective and steep drops. Needed deeper water. But I am sure it has changed since then
Dutch Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 Thanks. If all goes well I may get down that way next week sometime. wrench I have not had my boat above the Cave Hole. How much farther is it up to wading water?
oneshot Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Been seeing schools of real small Shad and every fish in the lake following them. Bass I've seen are small but where there is small ones there has to be Big ones. oneshot
fishinwrench Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I actually have no idea, I've never fished up in the river....but always wanted to.

fishinwrench Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Ya can if ya want I was just making the suggestion that a better bite than the lake is likely to produce now could probably be found up the Pomme river where the water is moving. Rivers typically fish a lot better during the dog-"daze" of summer than lakes do. I'd love to hear a few good reports come from that watershed, it seems that nobody fishes it ?????
Members Bigfishscott Posted August 25, 2014 Members Posted August 25, 2014 The lake is about 1/2 foot low. You prob can not get above the corner above cave hole, and maybe not through the riffle below the bridge without alitte work. As fishing the river there is very little water running in to do much cooling. With these temp I would say the water temp is in the low 90's up there. The water temp at bolivar landing yesterday afternoon was around 87-89 depending on the wind. I love to fish the river but on years like these with out the big pushes of spring rains it seems to hurt river fishing. There is always fish there but with out high water most of the fish are resident fish, and no new fish moving into the river. Last winter did a number on the big shad. Even though there was enough left to have a big spawn of little popcorn heads. Most of the big schools of shad are from weatland to the dam. From what I have experanced this year the fish have been relating more to the bluegills than the shad just because the are more of them. The fishing is pretty tough right now. There are some nice fish to catch if you can make them react to what you are throwing. They are there but not eating very often. About a month ago they were on fire you catch one and the whole school would fire up,but now you might catch one on a spot and sit there another 3 hours and not catch anything. You can fish the brush piles and catch several fish but most are smaller keeps and on the lucky occasion a nice one might move up and decide to feed. A month ago I fished a tour and had 21lbs 15oz and caught roughly 30 fish over 3lbs that day. Now you really have to work at it to catch 13lbs or better.
